An Objective Structured Clinical Examination is a useful tool in measuring clinical competence.
These OSCE examinations are for the following groups of trainees:
09/06/05 OSCE for Preregistration Pharmacists
14/07/05 Pharmacy Technicians enrolled on the Medicines Management (MM) & Patient Consultation Skills Accreditation Schemes (PCAS)
Assessor responsibilities:
· Ideally you, as an OSCE assessor, will have prior experience of assessing in the workplace e.g. A1, Work based facilitator, Preregistration Tutor, Applied therapeutics modules etc.
· Assessors must deem candidates competent or not competent according to predefined criteria on a checklist provided by the OSCE examination board.
· Assessors are also encouraged to write down additional comments on the assessment sheets which may be given to the students as feedback to aid identification of their strengths and areas of improvement.
Actor responsibilities:
· Ideally you, as an OSCE actor, will have experience of the OSCE process however this is not essential.
· Actors will be provided with a briefing sheet for a clinical scenario listing the key points to allow the OSCE candidate to extract the appropriate information during the role play.
· Actors will need the ability to stick to the given role throughout the examination as embellishment may detract from the intended outcome of the OSCE.
If you are available and meet the requirements above for an actor or assessor, please complete the attached proforma and return to the address overleaf.
Please assume you will be needed for the day unless contacted otherwise.
