The data is called “Organisation Data Service” and the various organisation types each have downloadable files of metadata.

The latest data is always available at

http://systems.hscic.gov.uk/data/ods/datadownloads

The link above takes you to the various pages for each organisation type. This can then be downloaded as various zipped CSV files.

The data for GP sites is in ‘GPs, GP Practices, Nurses and Pharmacies’ > ‘General Medical Practices’

Individual GPs are in another file called ‘General Medical Practitioners’

Other NHS organisations (such as other Acute Hospital Trusts) will be in ‘Other NHS organisations’ > NHS Trusts.

NHS NUMBER

NHS no is the External ID on HL7 fields—in the newer systems that have the later version of HL7 will use PID 3 for External ID—NHS no. However, in systems using older version of Hl7, may use PID 2 for NHS number—External ID.

NHS number will not be part of XDS metadata but will he held in the VNA database and updated via the PAS ADT feeds

This will become important for communicating with other NHS organisations using XCA gateway and via PIX manager

**Event Code for Doncaster Implementation

a.  Radiology Images—NICIP Codes(HL7 OBR Field 4—Universal Service ID) and Associated Specialties—Radiology plus Referring Specialty will NOT part of the Event codes in the XDS-I metadata set for radiology IMAGES for Doncaster Go-live. But should be considered in the roadmap

b.  Radiology Images will ONLY contain Modality only in event code metadata

c.  Report, Request and Cancellation Reason Event Code metadata will contain Modalities, NICIP codes and also Associated Specialties.

LINKING OF DOCUMENTS:

1.  XDS Folder Structure will be used for linking documents—Request, report and images. A folder is defined as a logical collection (or category) of documents. To “group” these documents together the “XDS Folder” can be used. A document can be a member of multiple folders.

2.  Reference IDs can also be used to link documents by the XDS consumer.
