Approval of Minutes / ·  The minutes from the July 11, 2012, Data Security and Stewardship Committee (DSSC) meeting were approved.
GradesFirst / ·  Anna McFadden reviewed the GradesFirst project sponsored by CarolBurton, associate vice chancellor for Undergraduate Studies. GradesFirst is an application that is used to record sensitive student information by providing a secure and safe environment. This will replace the RedRock application. The GradesFirst project has been approved by the Academic Technology Advisory Committee. It will also be presented to the Administrative Technology Advisory Committee and Information Technology Council.
Action Items – GradesFirst / ·  DSSC members requested additional information about this project.
·  Dan Berk will collect the additional information and will report his findings at the next DSSC meeting in October.
·  Brandy Henning will arrange a webinar with Berk and the vendor so questions can be clarified about how GradesFirst would work with our data warehouse (data loads, data syncs), security, student communication, etc.
·  Henning will email Berk and Scott Swartzentruber a document that details how GradesFirst supports different log-in methods.
·  Al Sanders will also follow up with Blackboard.
·  Burton will be invited to the IT Council meeting when the GradesFirst project will be presented.
·  Shea Browning will send McFadden a copy of the standard "FERPA exhibit" he plans to attach to the GradesFirst agreement so it can be pre-reviewed by GradesFirst.
Video Capture Policy / ·  Al Sanders presented a PowerPoint on what he was looking at as he develops a campus-wide video capture policy. Discussion followed.
Action Items- Video Capture Policy: / ·  Sanders was asked to meet with Mary Ann Lochner, Shea Browning and several others so they can help Sanders clearly identify why it is important for the university to have a video capture policy.
·  Then he will meet with the Provost to present his case. Finally, Sanders will present to the IT Council.
Email and VPN Security / ·  Fowler reported to DSSC what had been done to mitigate the recent email SPAM phishing attempts, as well as what has been done to help prevent this type of occurrence in the future. Numerous accounts (faculty, staff, and students) had been compromised which resulted in WCU’s email servers being blacklisted by various sites which, in turn, caused problems with how the university conducted business.
Policy 95 - Data Network Security and Access Control / ·  Fowler reported that the revised Policy 95 - Data Network Security and Access Control had been approved by Executive Council and by the Chancellor's Leadership Council. He explained the modifications made to the policy were driven by the academic side so faculty would have the opportunity to handle "end-of-semester cleanup." The policy is now out for comments from the campus.
ISO Crosswalk – ActionItems / ·  Jenny Owen will ask Scott Swartzentruber to email DSSC members a copy of the ISO template and a copy of the final document that was submitted to UNC GA.
