Nicola Unsworth in the Trimpell 20 race on Sunday

Rob Danson ran the high quality Wilmslow Half Marathon and made full use of the fast course and high standard to finish 9th in 1:10:40, and excellent run in wet and wintry conditions. He passed through 10k in 32:32 and 10 miles in 53:37, 9th at each stage. Garry Barnett finished 150th and 9th M50 in 1:24:26.

Nicola Unsworth ran the Trimpell 20 mile road race on Sunday in her marathon preparations, and she ran 2:55:30 to finish 233rd 61st woman and 10th W45.

In the Wigan Half Marathon on Sunday morning the first half of the race through the town, around the football stadium and along the canal past the Pier masked any expectation of the hilly second half up through Haigh Hall Country Park. Wesham’s David Taylor made a good go at the route though and finished 10th in 1:21:10, with the winner having clocked 1:12:18. Wesham had a good team out, with Steve Myerscough finishing 42nd in 1:27:03, 9th M40. Steven Gore was building up his mileage after the previous day’s exertions and ran easy for 1:58:47 in 810th place. Vicky Gore was 21st W40 and 110th woman in 1:58:48, with Debbie Myerscough 11th W50 and 155th woman with 2:02:32. Finlay McCalman was 1308th in 2:13:55.

The first of the year’s Lakeland Trails took place at Cartmell on Saturday in the Lakes Peninsulas starting at the racecourse near Grange and heading north up through the ridge towards Newby Bridge in knee-deep mud and standing water after a week of heavy rain. There was a 5km trail race this year and Kellie Helme finished 59th in 43:22. Anne Berry ran the 10km run and she finished 254th in 1:10:26, with Clive Berry 359th in 1:19:45. Paul Gregory was first finisher in the 18km Challenge recording a time of 1:29:55. Steven Gore was 18th in 1:40:33. There were no Wesham runners in the 10km Trail Race, which as won in 1:08:46.

Ben Wrigley had the fastest time amongst the Wesham members at this week’s Lytham Hall parkrun, clocking 24:31 for an M35 age graded performance of 54.11%. Phil Leaver ran an M60 66.22% with a time of 24:52; Graham Cunliffe clocked an excellent 25:29 for M60 62.92%; Diane Blagden W50 65.58% with 25:34; Finlay McCalman M50 55.19% with a time of 27:09; Julie Rooney 28:45 for W40 53.91% and a new personal best; Ashleigh Coles ran a debut 49.80% with 29:43 and Debbie Bell W40 51.34% with 30:25. At the Preston parkrun John Bertenshaw ran 21:55 for M60 73.16% and Robert Brown 26:32 for M55 59.92%. In the Barrow run parkrun tourists Vicky Gore ran 25:14 for W40 60.96% while Megan ran JW10 46.78 with 36:29, with Steven right beside her with the same time. David Taylor warmed up ate the Witton parkrun with 19:46 for the third fastest time of the day and a performance of 65.43%. At the Blackpool run Carl Groome ran 20:54 for M45 69.46%; Nicola Unsworth 21:30 for W45 74.57%; George Kennedy 23:00 with M55 69.13%; Dave Young 26:08 for M65 66.71%; Peter Cooke 29:19 with M55 53.36%; Anne Flanagan 32:10 with W55 58.65%; Caz Wadsworth 33:14 for W50 51.71%; Sue Rigby 33:25 with W40 46.73%; and George Flanagan 35:11 with M65 48:56%.
