Intended for 8th through 12th graders who have a passion for creating art, and may be headed toward an art college. Students will be expected to be creative and industrious, creating art from many media. This Enrichment will act as a supplement to art classes, allowing students to experiment in different media and subject matter. Only serious artists need apply! Enjoy the calm and peaceful movements of an ancient Chinese Martial Art. In addition, there will be discussions and materials designed to encourage students to understand and develop the discipline and ethical behavior expected of the Martial Artist in current day society. African Wood Carving Instructor: Mr. So-I Rm:251
Students use wood as an art medium to express their creativity. The instructor primarily uses the carving tools to carve the designs students draw on their wood piece. Once carved, students paint the final project.

This dance team is composed of high school seniors and juniors who will conduct tryouts for more members. The group will choreograph a routine to be performed at: location to be announced.

This course emphasizes on the development of basic communication skills through practice in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish. Students will study customs and values and will be provided an increased awareness of the Spanish-speaking cultures. Students will be able to participate in uncomplicated conversations on everyday topics.

Focus: The debate team offers students the opportunity to think critically about the world around them, form opinions based on fact and explain their point of view in a controlled setting. In conjunction with the Connecticut Debate Association, Classical Magnet debaters are invited to official debate tournaments around CT to compete for trophies and other winnings. The debate team fosters cognitive thought, advanced problem solving, listening, and impromptu skills not to mention discipline and exposure to other point of views.

A current events class designed to encourage students to read newspapers and to watch news reports, increasing student awareness of current events at the local, national and international levels using critical thinking skills, encouraging analysis and criticism.
Puppets and Performance Instructor: Mrs. Regan Rm:351 Students will explore the ancient art of puppetry, and learn how to create and perform with shadow puppets in this class. The students will design and create their own puppets. Then they will learn how to use their puppets and work together to develop short performance pieces. This is a great class for students with interests in both the visual and performing arts.

Students who are having difficulty in their math class,Grade 6 maththrough Algebra II, will receive assistance with their assignments as well as additional practice to help them with the skills that are giving them difficulty. Students should come prepared to enrichment with their math binders, books, and homework assignments. Students who wish to be selected for this enrichment must first obtain permission of the instructor. The instructor will then submit the names of those selected to the enrichment coordinator for final placement.

Beginners Level. Students will create art using Geometric Abstracts, Graffiti Art, Animation, and Lettering. If time permits students will do a T-shirt design using one of the art techniques aforementioned.

A chance for those interested in a career in medicineto learn more about what it takes to pursue this challenging goal. Students will discover the academic requirements, research experience and clinical exposure necessary to become an attractive medical school candidate. We will also discuss how to prepare for and take the infamous MCAT exam. Students will also have theopportunity to hear from guest speakers in different areas of the medical field.

Short films is an enrichment based around creating short documentaries of topics important to middle and high school students. Students will come up with a documentary idea, decide on an angle, do basic storyboarding before being sent out “into the world” to shoot their footage. Once footage is shot, students will be taught to use Roxio and will edit their footage into their documentary. Students will leave this enrichment with a short film to show for their time.
“Building a Model of Hadrian’s Wall”

In this enrichment students will build a 1: 60 scale model of a portion of Hadrian’s Wall. This was a Roman fortified barrier which extended across Britain.

Students will draw several types of drawings. They will learn about the basic principles and elements of design which will be incorporated into their drawings. Lessons will include contour drawings, blind contour drawings, shading, and value. We will concentrate on still life, abstract design, studies from nature and possibly portraits. This is a safe place where students and instructors will view videos and text of social issues which occurred in American History. Students will draw from these videos to discuss those issues and make a correlation of how those issues might still be reflected today. Parents and teachers are encouraged to recommend students for this Enrichment.

Life is a maze of relationships and this journey has Girl Scout Cadettes maneuvering through all its twists and turns to find true friendships, plenty of confidence, and maybe even peace. The adult guide offers tips for talking about relationship issues with girls, and pointers for understanding Cadet’s’ development and creating a save, welcoming space. Members must pay a $10.00 membership fee
