2017-2018 APVMA-AAVMC Research Scholarship Application

The APVMA would like to thank the AAVMC for their collaboration and support of our students this year. Their sponsorship has allowed us to introduce more scholarships for our students. $1000 in scholarships will be awarded undergraduate students who have completed exemplary research (the number of which is determined at the discretion of the APVMA Executive Board). Current APVMA members are eligible to apply and receive this scholarship, which is based on the following criteria:

Proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling

Quality of research

Level of participation in research

The deadline for this scholarship is March 1, 2018. Applications are to be emailed to in PDF format with the subject line “[Name]_APVMA_AAVMC_Research_Scholarship_Application_17/18”. Questions

  1. Briefly describe the research that you have participated in abstract format. Please include a statement of the relevance of your project, brief methods, results (including statistics) and summary and importance of findings. Limit this to 400 words.

Items 2-3 should total no more than 750 words combined, Arial, 12 point font.

2. What is the importance of the role of the veterinarian in research? Primarily focus your answers on research that has to do with companion or food animals, or research animals used as models for human medicine.

3. In what ways has your research proved to be beneficial for your time as a pre-veterinary student, and how do you plan to continue your efforts in research as a veterinarian?

4. This scholarship will require a letter of recommendation from a lead faculty or research advisor of your project. They should attest to your part in the research. They will submit the letter separately from the application. Please provide them with the following instructions to do so:
