October 24, 2017

Dear Colleagues:

This letter shall serve as your invitation to the NSDA Rules Tournament which will be held at Liberty High School on December 2, 2017.

Deadlines: Legislation submission must be made by email by November 9 so that I can get it to everyone the week before Thanksgiving Break. Register on tabroom.com by NOON November17 so I can prepare over Thanksgiving Break. Drops must be entered on tabroom.com by Wednesday, November 29 at 3:30 p.m. After that, you pay for drops!

Fees: PF teams- $18.00, LD- $9.00, DI, HI, OO, US, FX, IS, POI- $8.00, DUO-$16, congress- $10.00 for all day or $5.00 for one session. Please make checks out to Colorado Grande NSDA. Remember, your school dues need to be paid to the NSDA for you to come to this tournament, but as it is so early in the year, individual students do NOT have to be members yet.

Committee Decision: As you know, we need coaches to run meets. We understand that December Saturdays are at a premium, but due to liability and other issues, your students cannot attend if you or another OFFICIAL coach from your school isn’t present.

Registration: Registration will take place from 7:00 to 7:30. Follow the signs!

Schedule: AM Wave--LD, PF, DUO, Informative, and Program Oral Interp, Congress; PM Wave--HI, DI, USX, FX, OO, Congress.AM Wave first round begins at 8:00 a.m. Anyone who is not registered by 7:45 will NOT be scheduled in round one. Rounds two and three will run as soon as possible after that. The a.m. congress session will run from 8:30 to 11:30. The PO meeting will begin at 8:15.PM Wave first round begins at 12:30. (Extempers will draw at noon.) The afternoon congress will open at 1:00 and run until 4:00. The candidates for p.m. presiding officer will meet at 12:45. Awards are scheduled for 5:30 in the auditorium.

Judges: Here’s the bottom line:

  1. Anyone who enters an LDer must provide an LD judge.
  2. Each school MUST provide at least two judges in addition to him or herself. Failure to do so means we won’t have enough judges to run the meet.
  3. We pay the judges! If any of you have any extra judges available to bring, we need them! They will be paid $8.00 per round.

Congress: Legislation submission must be made by email by November 9 so that I can get it to everyone before Thanksgiving Break. Presiding officer nominations will be taken on site. The number of chambers will be set so that each will hold between 17 and 20 congress persons so that students will have lots of opportunities to give speeches.

Rules: Please remind your students that the rules for NSDA are different. That’s why we have a practice tournament. The major differences are highlighted below:

1. Ups and downs are posted.

2. Extempers may NOT use a notecard. Files will be checked.

3. There is no poetry. Interps must be memorized=no scripts! The cutting may come from only one source.

*CHSAA has aligned most rules, and remember that INF and POI are both CHSAA and NSDA events this year.

Topics:

The topic for the Public Forum Debate will be the December topic which will be released at

The topic for LD is Resolved: Resolved: Wealthy nations have an obligation to provide development assistance to other nations.

Food: As always lunch is provided for the coaches and the judges. Liberty will have concessions for students.

Can’t wait to see you all!
