Seating Chart
All guests enter through the glass doors facing Hooker Fields. As you enter the Arena concourse (on the diagram the main concourse runs along sections 109-105), you enter the seating areas through Portal 4 on your left or through Portal 5 on your right. You can sit anywhere in the permanent arena seats. Graduates will be seated on the arena floor. The stage will be set up in front of sections 116-118 and facing sections 105-109.
Plenty of disability seating is available. When you enter Carmichael Arena through the doors facing Hooker Field, go either to your right towards Portal 4 or to your left through Portal 5 (ushers will be on hand to assist you). The entire area between Portal 4 and Portal 5 is an expanded seating area to accommodate wheelchairs. This area shows in dark gray in the above diagram. The disability seating area is located on the same level as you enter between the upper and lower level guest seating in the center of the arena - directly across from the stage. It is behind sections 105-109. On the diagram above, the stage will be in front of sections 116-118. Sorry – we don’t provide wheelchairs.
Please note that there is another ceremony ahead of the Biology Ceremony. We need to allow time for their guests to exit and for the Carmichael staff to clean/prepare for our ceremony. Doors will open at approximately 30 minutes prior to the start of our ceremony. Please plan accordingly – especially if it is a hot day.
Carmichael Arena is air-conditioned.
Directions to Carmichael Arena
Note: The street address for Carmichael Auditorium is 310 South Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
From the Raleigh/Durham Airport and points east: Take I-40 West to exit 273A. Follow 54 West toward Chapel Hill. After passing under the 15-501 overpass, the road will go up a hill and into campus. Carmichael Arena will be on your left, adjacent to intramural playing fields and shortly after the traffic light at the corner of campus. To park in the Bell Tower Parking Deck, continue on South Road. At the 3rd traffic light after you have passed Carmichael, take a left - it’ll be the light after you pass Stadium Drive and the Bell Tower. Walk back to South Road, take a right and Carmichael Arena is on the same side of the street – 4 blocks away.
From points north of Chapel Hill: Follow I-85 South toward Durham. At exit 174, stay in the left-hand lane to get on 15-501 South. Follow 15-501 South to the Highway 54 junction, where you will exit to the right, following signs for the UNC campus. Proceed up the hill into campus. Carmichael will be on your left. To park in the Bell Tower Parking Deck, continue on South Road. At the 3rd traffic light after you have passed Carmichael, take a left - it’ll be the light after you pass Stadium Drive and the Bell Tower. Walk back to South Road, take a right and Carmichael Arena is on the same side of the street – 4 blocks away.
From points west of Chapel Hill: Take I-85 North to I-40 East. Follow I-40 East to exit 270, 15-501 South. Follow 15-501 South into Chapel Hill and follow directions from points north.
From points south: Take I-77 North to I-85 North, then follow directions from points west.
