Reading comprehension

Read the text about a boy who goes back in time and meets Shakespeare. Mark the sentences below true or false.

I've just read this book which is about Shakespeare. It's not a boring book about his life and his plays and what people think of his language and his way of writing and all that. It's an adventure book really, and it's about an American boy who comes to Stratford with his class. I forget what the boy's name was, so let's call him John. John went to Stratford with the theatre group from his school because his parents had no time for him. John wasn't really interested in going to Stratford and he certainly wasn't interested in Shakespeare. He just wanted to get away from his parents. He didn't like his teacher and his teacher didn't like him. And he didn't like the teacher who looked after them in Stratford. He was an English teacher and Shakespeare was the world for him. When they went to see a play, John usually fell asleep. All the others were very interested in Shakespeare, but John only wanted to have a good time and forget that his parents weren't kind to him.

One day he met a girl in the market place. She was from Stratford and they started talking. White he was talking to her, he suddenly felt very dizzy. When he woke up again, he was in Stratford, but it was a different Stratford. He found out that it was Stratford at Shakespeare's time.

John met Shakespeare, and he also met Shakespeare's son, Hamnet. Hamnet had just lost a play his father had given to him and he was very worried.

John and Hamnet became friends and they found out that the play had been stolen. They tried to get it back, but this was all very dangerous. John found himself back in the present again, and there too, there were some men hunting for the play. John went from the present to the past and back again. The girl he met in Stratford tried to help him, but in the end they did not get the play and Hamnet died. It was a very interesting book because it was an adventure story, but at the same time you learned a lot about Shakespeare and his life and his work, and also about the theatre at that time.

I wish we could have more books like that. And I also wish teachers could tell us stories like that and not just give us facts, facts, facts. When you read this book, Shakespeare really comes alive.
