City Seeking Citizen Input to Fee Schedule Changes—June 1, 2005

Shelton, WA—The City of Shelton is seeking input from citizens regarding the proposed fee schedule changes slated to take effect on July 1st. Citizens are invited and encouraged to attend the next City Commission meeting, scheduled for Monday, June 6th at 6 p.m. in the Civic Center.

Some of the proposed changes to the fee schedule include: taxi driver licenses and fingerprinting; public record requests; planning and development review fees, and building inspection costs.

The structure of the development and review fees are being changed to provide better services to the development community. Examples of the fee schedule changes include increasing the short plat review fee from $75 to $350 and also charging a fee for a pre-submission conference. Though there are increases in many of the fees, some fees will remain the same or even be reduced. Future service improvements by the City will include the creation of a certified permit technician and/or senior planner positions to provide the best possible service to customers.

The City created its fee schedule by Resolution so that costs could be reviewed annually and fees updated to recover costs with little or no administrative burden. It is in the City’s best long-term interest to update fees to recover the costs of providing services to the public. If fees collected do not cover the cost of providing services, all citizens subsidize those services with taxes paid into the City’s general fund.

Complete listings of the fee schedule changes are available at the Civic Center or on the City’s website at www.ci.shelton.wa.us.
