  1. Purchase of Extra Gazebos

Following several would-be-stall holders not booking, as all our gazebos were booked for 26th March (Easter Event), the Committee fully considered the purchase of more. While it was not felt that more gazebos would make much return this year, such is the optimism for the Outdoor Markets in the future that it was decided, on balance, to be worthwhile.

It was RESOLVED to spend up to £2,000 to purchase four more gazebos, including one branded with the town’s Crest.

  1. Publicity for the Easter Event

Publicity for this event was discussed and it was felt desirable to have posters for:

  • Our new A-boards, including in supermarkets
  • The Market
  • For any shops that want to display them
  • For while the event is running, highlighting attractions

AS offered to investigate cheap banners. In addition it was felt worthwhile to selectively boost Event Facebook Postings.

It was RESOLVED to spend up to £200 on Easter Event publicity.

  1. Demonstration Chefs

Following Skipton’s lead, it was felt to be important to invite demonstration chefs to the Easter Event.

It was RESOLVED to ask SC-P to procure at least two demonstration chefs to appear for a small fee, plus publicity.

  1. Activities in the Market

MH reported that the harvesting of trees for the Easter Egg Painting Competition had begun and showed pictures. She reported on a planned Photo Booth with a potential chef theme or food fight theme. She also informed us of cake decorating and biscuit decorating in the Market. MH promised to supply firmer details soon with timings and locations.

  1. Beatrix Potter 150 Celebratory Storyteller

It was decided to tie in the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter’s birth with a storyteller in the Library.

It was RESOLVED that the Clerk would contact the Library as soon as possible to arrange this.

  1. Churches’ Involvement

The importance of Christianity at Easter was recognised by the Committee.

It was RESOLVED that the Clerk would contact Colne’s churches as soon as possible to find out what they are planning on 26th March and to incorporate their plans into our programme schedule.

  1. Sponsorship

Committee RESOLVED to request SC-P to contact The Alma, Lloyd’s BMW and Farmhouse Biscuits for potential sponsorship of the Easter Event.

  1. Moving the timing of the Events Committee in the Next Council Year

It was RESOLVED that, owing to clashes and on the advice of the Council’s accountants, the Events Committee should be henceforth held on the second Tuesday of each month.

Next meeting is scheduled for MONDAY March 7th 2016 in the Council chamber of Colne Town Hall.
