GENERAL JOB FUNCTION

The Tissue Donation Coordinator (TDC) Shift Lead is responsible for ensuring operations during assigned shifts run as efficiently as possible by ensuring calls to families, hospitals, funeral homes, and coroners are made in a timely, efficient and effective manner. In addition to performing the duties of a TDC, he/she functions as a peer and team leader within the department. The TDC Shift Lead will field questions from TDC’s in the absence of management and maintains close contact with the Tissue Administrator On-Call (AOC), Tissue Operations management team, and the Supervisor/Recovery Setup On-Call. He/She is responsible for assigning tasks to TDCs, as well as reviewing documentation in order to ensure all tasks are completed accurately and efficiently. The TDC – Shift Lead performs all duties and responsibilities in compliance with DNW’s standard operating procedures, regulations outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations, and other applicable Federal, state, and local laws.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Functions as and covers shifts as Tissue Donation Coordinator as needed.
  • Facilitates the efficient operation of the assigned shift.
  • Acts as the point of contact for TDC’s on assigned shift for guidance, questions and/or concerns. Escalates issues to the Operations Center Supervisor or Tissue AOC, as appropriate
  • Assigns cases to TDC’s fairly in order to facilitate donation efficiently. Takes individual TDC authorization rates into account when assigning cases.
  • Prioritizes staff calls based on urgency of call in an equitable manner in assuring a high level of customer service and internal timelines.
  • Audits data entry into iTx, MSHQ, and authorizations for errors and/or omissions.
  • Works closely with Tissue Operation Center management team, and Tissue AOC to communicate current, as well as potential, issues with cases and personnel.
  • Reports TDC tardiness and absences to management in real time.
  • Ensures all calls are made in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that TDCs are appropriately logged into the phone system and are available to receive calls.
  • Responds to all incoming department e-mail correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Reviews complex cases and escalates to the Tissue AOC or Supervisor of Tissue Operations Center for guidance, as appropriate and necessary.
  • Serves as a representative of DNW to external customers and internal DNW departments.
  • Serves as point of contact on all occurrences and process deviations that occurred on the TDC-SL's assigned shift.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in biologic sciences or an equivalent degree/diploma/certification in an allied health field required. Minimum of 3 years of experience may substitute for educational requirement.
  • CTBS certification in addition to required education, preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a TDC or related position in the organ/tissue industry.
