Aim

To develop Crisis Skylight services in South Yorkshire and ensure that all single homeless people have access to the education, employment personalised support and housing opportunities that they need to transform their lives and leave homelessness behind for good.

Dimensions

  • Managing the Crisis Skylight South Yorkshire (CSSY) team including permanent staff, sessional tutors and volunteers.
  • Responsibility for Skylight offices and buildings in South Yorkshire.
  • Managingthe budget for Crisis Skylight South Yorkshire.
  • Managing relationships with stakeholders, including funders, partners and other agencies and identifying new opportunities for growth and partnership across South Yorkshire.

Circumstances

  • 35 hours per week
  • Willing and able to travel across South Yorkshire and the UK for training and meetings.
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required in accordance with Crisis TOIL policy.
  • A satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau is required for this role.

Salary

  • £39,535 per annum

Principal accountabilities

Management & leadership

  • Successful delivery of the CSSY 2013 – 2016 Business Plan.
  • Plan the service delivery across South Yorkshire, ensuring the balance of engagement, education, employment IAG and personalised support maximises the opportunities for client participation and progression.
  • Manage and motivate line reports, using the Crisis performance management system to review performance, progress and identify developmental opportunities.
  • Overallresponsibility for the health and safety requirements ofCSSY including implementing an effective risk management framework ensuring regular review of risk management policies to ensure the safety of clients, staff, volunteers, tutors and partners.
  • Ensure member involvement is fully integrated into the work of CSSY.
  • Prioritise resources and set and manage budgets across CSSY.
  • Champion and raise the profile of CSSY at public forum, to all relevant sector networks, local and national government and within Crisis.
  • Compellingly convey the CSSY vision and motivate all staff to give of their best and ensure that all are aware of the part they play in the transformation of the lives of homeless people.

Monitoring and quality

  • Ensure staff understand and adhere to systems that enable the collection of accurate data including budgetary, member and learner records and all monitoring and evaluation information.
  • Ensure service provision is high quality and delivers on all relevant objectives and action points as set out in Crisis’ strategic plan.
  • Ensure projects and contracts perform against targets, take responsibility for evaluation and regular reporting to Director of Client Services, Senior Management Team and Trustees, in addition to funders and other departments.
  • Oversee the implementation of quality standards and ensure that the accredited learning offer meets the required standards of the various awarding bodies and funders. Identify relevant and new awarding bodies and work with other Skylight Directors to ensure a consistent offer across Skylights.
  • Implement the model of change in Skylight services and ensure that all staff understand and embed the model in their work and approach.

Relationships

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with potential partners within the statutory, charitable and private sectorsfor the delivery of additional services and the potential referral-on of clients.
  • Identify potential sources of local funding and where appropriate lead on bids and/or work on applications with a member of the central fundraising. Build and maintain strong relationships with potential funders and supporters.
  • Promote the work of CSSY to external bodies and organisations and work with Communications Team to produce high quality marketing and communications materials.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with all Crisis departments to facilitate delivery of a high quality service and enable the promotion of CSSY to a wide variety of external audiences.
  • Promote activities to the local community and consider the options for developing a mixed community of CSSY services users.
  • Take part in training and mentoring for new projects opening up across the UK.

General

  • To develop and maintain an understanding of the charity’s vision and the needs and circumstances of homeless people.
  • To comply with Crisis policies and procedures, including Health and Safety policies, for which all employees owe a duty of care both to themselves and others, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • To carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required in the light of the main purpose of the job.

Person Specification

  • Have worked at a senior managerial level in a relevant sector e.g. homelessness, adult education, training and employment.
  • Good understanding of the various accrediting bodies and their requirements and also of the quality standards required to deliver outstanding learning, advice and guidance.
  • Experience of preparing and managing a complex budget with competing demands for resources.
  • Awareness of the barriers to participation and learning experienced by homeless and marginalised people and an understanding of how these might be overcome.
  • Knowledge of labour market trends, including local and regional skills gaps.
  • Understanding of the key principles of client involvement.
  • Sound knowledge of health and safety issues to ensure a safe environment is provided for members, staff, volunteers, supporters and visitors.
  • Able to think strategically and plan service delivery and resource allocation accordingly. .
  • Strong networking and partnership building skills adaptable to a variety of audiences including funders, supporters, learning organisations, statutory bodies and employers.
  • Excellent communication skills, spoken and written, including the ability to promote CSSY services and deliver reports and proposals required by a wide variety of audiences.
  • Able to lead on funding bid writing and ensure that funding applications are in line with strategic and operational plans.
