C / Admission Process in ICCU

A. Purpose:

To provide standard treatment universally accepted to the critically ill Cardiac patient as per hospital policy.

B. Scope of ICCU:

1. Management of all cases of Acute chest pain.

2. Management of all types of Cardiac Arrhythmias.

3. Management of Haemo-dynamically unstable Cardiac patients.

4. Management of Survivors of sudden Cardiac Arrest.

5. Management of Cardiogenic-shock.

C. ADMISSION PROCEDURE IN CCU

  1. All medical, paramedical and nursing staff are put on ‘high alert’ when a cardiac patient is being sent to Coronary Care Unit from the Casualty.
  2. The bed is kept ready, and the monitor as well as defibrillator checked. Electrodes, IV cannula, oxygen mask, emergency medicine tray and airway ventilator ready. Arrangements for arterial monitoring as well as bedside temporary pacing are standby.
  3. Patient is wheeled into the CCU and immediately put onto the bed.
  4. Patient is immediately connected to the monitor for rhythm and hear rate.
  5. Intravenous access is secure with IV cannula
  6. The vitals of the patient – pulse, blood pressure, respiration and airway are immediately checked by the Nursing staff
  7. Doctor on duty does the preliminary physical examination
  8. Electrocardiogram is taken by the staff nurse/ECG Technician
  9. Patient changed to hospital clothes and initial instructions of doctor carried out.
  10. Attendant is called into CCU after removal of slippers and initial condition, prognosis and mode of treatment explained to them.
  11. All valuables (ornaments etc) removed in the presence of family members and handed over to the nearest relative/friend after obtaining his signatures on the CRF.
