POSITION OBJECTIVE(S):

·  Drive Council’s domestic waste/organic collection vehicle’s (greater than 22.4T GCM) to carry out Council’s Waste Collection program as required.

·  Collect and empty Council’s mobile big bins (MGB) as part of Council’s Domestic Waste/Organic Collection program in accordance with schedules determined by the Team Leader Waste & Cleansing.

·  Assist in the Administration, Customer Service and Educational Functions of the Waste Collection Service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Operate Domestic Waste/Organic Collection Vehicle and Equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.1 To conduct pre-start checks and perform routine maintenance on waste collection vehicles on a daily basis in accordance with approved pre-start check list and maintenance programs.

1.2 To ensure that the vehicle is cleaned and the hopper is disinfected at the completion of each shift including inspecting the vehicle and reporting any maintenance/repairs requirements to the workshop.

1.3 To monitor the level of supplies including the first aid kit and where necessary arrange further supplies from the Team Leader Waste & Cleansing.

2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Collection and Disposal of Domestic Waste/Organics.

Duties and Responsibilities:

2.1 To carry out Council’s domestic waste/organics collection and disposal programs by driving the vehicle and where necessary emptying bins in accordance with a program by Team Leader Waste & Cleansing.

2.2 To carry out the collection and disposal programs in accordance with Council’s safety policies and procedures.

2.3 To dispose of the domestic waste/organic collected at the Council refuse disposal sites as required.

2.4 To complete a daily timesheet and running sheet detailing activities for the day.

2.5 To ensure that there is an adequate supply of gloves and safety equipment at the beginning of each shift.

2.6 To advise the Team Leader Waste & Cleansing when bins are not collected and the reasons for the non collection.

2.7 To practice public courtesy in conducting the assigned duties and promotion of Council’s Waste/Organic Collection Services throughout the Municipality.

2.8 To inform the Team Leader Waste & Cleansing of instances of littering, rubbish dumping and dead animals.

2.9 To advise the Team Leader Waste & Cleansing of any irregularities in the domestic waste/organic collection program.

2.10  Inform the Team Leader Waste & Cleansing of any operational problems at Council’s Landfill Sites.

2.11  To assist with Council’s shop and reserve litter collection program and when necessary assist with the domestic waste/organic collection program, by driving the vehicle and where necessary emptying in accordance with a program by Team Leader Waste & Cleansing.

2.12  To assist in the delivery and repair of mobile garbage bins when necessary.

3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY:

·  Perform duties in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1985, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Council policies and procedures.

·  Monitor Occupational Health and Safety within area of responsibility.

·  Actively participate in the development and implementation of hazard elimination or minimisation strategies.

·  Immediately report any accidents and hazards to relevant supervisor and take appropriate action.

·  Participate in workplace inspections and audit.
