ABSENCES AND MAKEUP WORK
GUIDELINES:
1. THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MAKEUP WORK IS ENTIRELY THE BURDEN OF THE STUDENT.
2. Homework papers will be accepted for regular credit, exclusive of extra credit, no later than one (1) day late for each day of absence due to illness or other compelling reason, not including the day of return.
For example: If you are ill on Tuesday and return Wednesday, you
must have makeup work in by Thursday.
This applies to single or double blocked classes.
3. So called “pre-arranged” absences do not have a day of grace. Therefore, in the previous example, the work would be due on Wednesday. WEEKENDS AND VACATIONS ARE COUNTED AS DAYS YOU CAN USE TO GET CAUGHT UP AND WORK WOULD BE DUE SOONER.
4. Truancies or unexcused absences will be dealt with as described in the student handbook. Any work, quizzes, or tests missed because of an unexcused absence will not be accepted unless the student attends “Saturday School” to make up the work. This includes work due on the day of the absence, as well as work assigned the day of the absence.
5. Appointments or other reasons which cause you to leave school during the day and miss class require that you turn in the day’s assignment and pick up any new assignment BEFORE you leave school. If you miss the first part of the day, and return to school later in the day, you must turn in the day’s assignment before 3:30 of that day.
6. Tests must be made up within the same time-frame as homework (see #2). Makeup tests will be given before school. If you miss a test, you are entitled to one makeup test. “Pop” quizzes can not be made up. Some make-up tests may also require some time after school and during CCT.
7. If you are absent the day (or class) before a test is scheduled and you did not miss any new material which will be on the test, you will be required to take the test on the scheduled day.
8. During the first semester, assignments which are up to two (2) days late will receive only 50% credit. After two days, no credit will be given. During the second semester, no credit will be given for any late assignments. An assignment will be considered late if it is not turned in when asked for. Extra credit work will not be accepted late. You must be present to receive any extra credit on any assignments, tests, or quizzes.
9. Chemistry labs often can not be made up since materials will not necessarily keep and be available. If possible, materials will be kept for two days after lab day to allow for makeup before and after school and during CCT.
10. In cases of extended illness (more than three days), a schedule of makeup activities will be worked out by the teacher and student with consideration of the individual case.
