Hospitals and Health Centers are demonstrating their commitment to the planet this Earth Day by organizing eco events on their campuses and sites. What is your organization doing to mark the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day this April 22? Here’s a sampling of what’s happening this year!

Evergreen Healthcare, Kirkland, WA / Hospital Event / April 22 – 9 – 3 pm. Green Team is hosting second annual Earth Day event in the Galleria. Education on reducing environmental footprint. In addition environmentally minded information booths, focus at the event will include information on:-
1)what we recycle and reuse in the hospital
2)how we can reduce waste at work and at home
3)how individuals can become involved in our environmental initiatives
The special attraction will be the Monster Cup. There will be free hot coffees or tea for folks who bring their own coffee cup. The Monster Cup will be spreading the word about the resources one can save when one uses a reusable cup and will also be encouraging the recycling of paper and plastic coffee cups in the hospital’s ‘All in one recycling’.
Providence St. Mary’s Medical Center, Walla Walla, WA / City-Wide Event / Participating in a city-wide Green Commute Day on Earth Day. Participants who arrive to work ‘green’ will be entered into a raffle for a ‘green’ prize (likely a $25 gift certificate to a bike shop). Our hospital will be also be competing with other businesses/organizations in the community for prizes to be awarded for highest participation, most miles saved, etc.

April 22—The hospital will have an educational booth on sustainability in the UWEC commons that will highlight the hospital’s Green Team efforts, Practice Greenhealth awards,andinformation on their local food cooperative that now allows three regional hospitals to buy locally produced and processed food.

April 2010- Our month-long "Focusing Our Energy on Patient Care" campaign taking place across the system. The goal is to raise awareness about the importance of energy conservation and innovation to our environment and our community. During the campaign, we will offer learning opportunities, a children's art contest,webcasts, andan employee recognition program called "Be an Energy Star" in addition to planned Earth Day events.Cleveland Clinic is proud to be an Energy Star Partner.
April 22-Earth Day Celebration across the system to raise awareness, promote opportunities, and celebrate healthy environments for healthy communities at the Cleveland Clinic and in the greater community. There will be a flagship event on Main Campus in Cleveland, Ohio. Some exhibits planned for this year’s Earth Day celebration include: a Farmer’s Market teaser with free apple and market bag giveaways; $1 raffle benefiting the Cleveland Carbon Fund offering plants and other great prizes; sneaker recycling drop-off for Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program that turns sneakers into playground surface material; local music; and dozens of educational displays on environmental topics, including practical, how-to info on recycling, energy conservation and pollution prevention.
