2014 GIRLS’ SOCCER INFORMATIONAL SHEET
1. Tryouts:
-August 25th (2:30-4:15 PM) AND 26th (7:30-9:00 AM AND 5:00-6:30 PM) at CHS (if needed, players will be asked to come out Wednesday-Friday for additional tryouts)
-Will consist of small sided and full field scrimmages
-Selection process will be conducted by the CHS Girls Soccer Staff based on the following criteria:
1. Fitness: Coming into the season fit shows that you care and have made a commitment to the Girls Soccer Program.
2. Technical Ability:
a. Can you use both feet?
b. Can you pass and receive?
c. Can you combine?
3. Player’s ability to keep the ball under pressure: Can the player hold the ball, execute passes, finish under pressure or do they panic and kick it away?
4. Player’s ability to defend: Ability to defend in a 1v1 situation, as well as ability to defend within a formation. What is the player’s response to a loss of possession? Do they immediately work to win the ball back for their team?
5. Player’s decisions: Do they make good decisions with and without the ball?
6. Speed: Physical speed, mental speed, and technical speed.
7. Attitude: Ability to deal with setbacks and adversity, composure on and off the field, influence on teammates and the game
8. Grades: student-athletes that can perform on the field as well as in the classroom.
a. Any player that has below a 2.0 gpa at the time of tryouts will hinder their chance to be selected to join the Girls Soccer Program
***Being on a team a previous year does not guarantee one’s place within the program this season. Our goal is to compete at the highest level; therefore, we want student-athletes that will allow us to achieve this goal!
-Student-athletes need to be ready to go by 2:15 PM on Monday, August 25th.
1. Athletic Packet will need to be submitted to Mrs. Nyegaard before tryouts. If you are a 8th/9th grader, please submit paperwork to the HIGH SCHOOL athletic office. 2. Physical is up to date-they are good for 2 years
3. ASB Card
**If a student-athlete has not completed the above mentioned items, it will prevent them from trying out and impact their chance of being selected for the Girls’ Soccer Team.
2. Teams:
-Varsity: 14-15 field players and 2 goalies (17 max)
-JV: 15-17 field players and 2 goalies (19 max)
-C: 15-17 field players and 2 goalies (19 max)
-There may be movement from one team to another throughout the season as the coaches deem necessary. Student-athletes will EARN their position AND playing, as NO-ONE IS ENTITLED to a position OR playing time. Daily competition is encouraged.
3. Additional Information
-If a student athlete is selected to play for the 2014 Curtis Girls’ Soccer program:
-Training Sessions are usually 3:30-5:00 or 5:00-6:30 pm or depending on field availability (calendar will be online) and we occasionally train on Saturday.
-This season, varsity and jv members will be required to the purchase ($150) the following items:
-Warmup Jacket (Nike with Lady Viks embroidered upper left chest)
-Warmup Pants
-2 Training Shirts (Nike Dri-Fit, 1 short sleeve/1 long sleeve, screened front/back)
-2 Socks
-C team members will be required to purchase the 2 training shirts and 2 socks ($80). The warmup top and bottom will be optional
-We do train over Labor Day Weekend. If you are selected to be part of the Girls’ Soccer program you will be EXPECTED to be present during the Labor Day Weekend. An absence will affect your playing time when you return and may require the coaches to make player movements.
