Get to Know Us!
Born in February 1988 to True Light Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles, South Bay Presbyterian Church (SBPC) was dedicated in March 1988 and accepted into the Presbytery in November 1992.
SBPC was planted in Torrance, California by six families from True Light Presbyterian Church of nearby Los Angeles. Incorporated as the Chinese Presbyterian Church of the South Bay, the first worship services were held at the Torrance YMCA. Later, the Sizzler next door became a regular meeting place for SBPC's expanding programs.
In September 1997, SPBC acquired a place of its own at 2701 Plaza Del Amo #703. We're continuing to grow and may find ourselves relocating again, but we're committed to being your neighbor in the South Bay.

Youth Ministries
Our Youth Ministry is inclusive of all young people from 6th to 12th grade. We meet at South Bay Presbyterian Church every Friday night from 7:30pm-9:30pm. During these two hours we participate in community-building games and songs, hear a message, and hang-out afterwards.
We also do a lot of fun and exciting activities and events throughout the year such as youth retreats, lasertag, bowling, 30-hour famine, ice-skating, broomball, movies, beach days and a lot more!
Jr. High Focus:
Because many youth who are in their Junior High years are searching for “who they are”, we want to point them towards finding their identities in Christ, our Lord & Savior. We try to do this by building up their understanding of what Christian faith is, using Biblical examples, and by showing them how they can live out their faith daily.
Sr. High Focus:
Many students in Senior High School are ready for development in the area of leadership. Topics we might cover in our meetings are unity in Christ, accountability to peers, willingness to serve God’s kingdom and being mindful of what we consume in the media.
Questions??? Please contact any of the following leaders through the church office:
Jr. High: Karen Lee or Anthony Jung

KATSFEST
Ezra 7:10 tells us that, “For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of the LORD and to practice it, and to teach His statutes and ordinances in Israel (NASB95).”
KATSFEST stands for Knowing, Applying, TeachingScriptures Following Ezra Seven Ten. The main vision of KATSFEST is for everyone to be deeply rooted in the teachings of Scriptures that will bring correct application – and later on to be able to transfer the knowledge to others following the principle in Ezra 7:10.
We meet every other Saturday at 5:30pm at various houses, and…there’s always FEAST in KATSFEST! Yes, FEAST – Fellowship Established Around Scriptural Teachingsor another type of FEAST – Foods Energizing Anyone Seeking Truth.
We have a great variety of mouth-watering foods in every KATSFEST.
Our meetings are not dull, boring, and sleep-inducing! Some of the topics we have discussed in the past include the following:
Stan – I would like to reduce this list so that we can eliminate having to have the repeat ocean graphic, etc. on this page…can you help determine which bullets to reduce? I have not heard back from Ver…
- Where did we get the Bible? Why is it true? Who wrote what in the Bible? Aren’t there contradictions in the Bible? Was KJV the inspired Bible? Which Bible translation is the best?
- Why do people resist heaven? What about temptations? What is required from us by the Lord? What proves that we are indeed Christians? Have we chosen the Lord or was it the Lord who chose us? What about predestination? Is it a heretical doctrine?
- What happens after death? Is there hope beyond the grave? Can we know each other in heaven? Do we still need to eat in heaven?
- Who is dissident and who is diffident?
- What about tithing – 10% minimum or voluntary? When is giving considered grieving?
- What about politics – what shall be our stand?
- Do we really have angels assigned to us?
- What about divorce? What about remarriage?
- What about conflicts among Christians? How are we to resolve?
- What about abortion? Who decides terminating pregnancy? What about euthanasia? What about “pulling the plug”?
- What about “gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgenders (GLBT’s)”? Can they remain “as-is” after knowing the Lord?
- How can I study the Bible and enjoy it? How can I know which interpretation is correct – or at least valid? Does it sound Greek (or maybe Hebrew) to you?
- What about the Lord’s Supper? Who are qualified to partake? Do the elements need to be bread and wine or can it be cookies and grape juice? What about chips and cola? Why did Christians die after partaking the Lord’s Supper?
- What about baptism? What is the correct mode – immersion, effusion, or sprinkling? Can the babies be baptized or just adults? What mode was Jesus baptized with – immersion? Do you know that if Jesus was not baptized with the correct mode, He could have violated a law, which would disqualify Him from being the perfect Lamb?
- The 7 churches in the Book of Revelation – who are they and what can we learn from them?
- What about cults and occults? What do they teach? Are they not using the Bible as well?
- How can I share my faith away? What do I need to tell the unbelievers? What method or methods would be effective in evangelism?
If you are interested (or maybe just curious), come and join us as we FEAST in KATSFEST every other Saturday at 5:30 pm. We will meet from house-to-house to share the warmth of love and to practice true hospitality and “fellow-sheep.” Just look at our upcoming events for locations, dates & times or…

Prayer Ministry
SBPC offers many opportunities for support and encouragement in prayer. Prayer is the foundation of one’s individual faith and the back-bone of our church. Without prayer, God cannot move. Studies on Scripture (S.O.S.)
All adults are welcome to join us on Sunday mornings at 9am. It is our conviction that indeed DDD – Doctrines Drive Doings! That’s why we need DDDDD – Diligent Digging Down Deeper Daily. As doctrines drive our own actions, we need to fill our minds with the Word of God for us to “walk in a manner worthy of the Lord.” This therefore eludes that DDDD – Distorted Doctrines Definitely Deludes.
Our discussions in the past included the following:
- Who are the saints – are they dead or still living?
- What is the gospel? Who needs to hear it? Do Christians need to hear the gospel as well? Is it required for salvation?
- What about those who died before the time of Jesus – on what basis where they justified or condemned? Was there gospel before the time of Christ?
- How can we overcome fear of sharing the gospel and what causes our fear?
- What about those who never heard the gospel – are they going to hell or some will be in heaven? What about babies who died in infancy, are they in heaven or are they in hell because they didn’t hear the gospel?
- When we experience what we enjoy, is it a sign that God is pleased with us? Does everything we have please God?
- Are Jews and Gentiles going to be judged differently? Do they have different standards or does God treat them alike?
- What about those “gray areas” in the Scriptures, how can we discern which is pleasing to God? Does the Bible give “clear” direction on the “gray areas”?
Questions??? Please contact Ver Reyes through the Church Office.

Mission’s
The Missions Committee meets monthly to support various short & long term missions in prayer, communications & financial support. We manage the donations to missions at SBPC, and allocate these to support designated long-term missionaries, both here and abroad.
In addition, the committee assists any short-term missions that church members may become involved in. Throughout the year, the committee informs the congregation of missions-related items through Sunday announcements, and in print via the Sunday bulletin.
The committee also coordinates SBPC's Annual Missions Month, which features guest missions speakers as well as the popular annual Taste of Missions Dinner where you may bring and sample foods from throughout the world and hear about the exciting adventures and experiences from returnees from this year’s missions.
