Patient and Public Involvement in healthcare, approaches and techniques: a workshop

This workshop is free for anyone in the Oxford region who is interested in learning about, developing or maybe refreshing their skills in patient and public involvement in healthcare, especially those employed by the sponsoring organisations.

This could be; healthcare researchers, NHS staff, public involvement managers and leads, involved members of the public, and healthcare commissioners

During the day we will; share the experience and skills of the workshop participants, discuss principles and values that underpin effective patient and public involvement in healthcare and provide an overview of approaches and techniques. In smaller groups we will explore approaches and techniques four key areas of patient and public involvement;

·  Increasing awareness using social media – this could apply in research, health services, key public health messages, calls for consultation etc.

·  Achieving a shared goal or strategic direction – this could apply in setting up health projects, research steering committees or community work

·  Deciding on priorities – we may focus on research priorities in particular in this session (to be confirmed)

·  Seeking consultation and feedback – this could apply to seeking changes in health services, or finding out what is important in communities
