General Summary:

Process first party auto/property claims and third party liability claims. The process includes a review of coverage, proper coding and entry of new claims, establish loss reserves, verify and document loss amounts, issue timely claim payments, prepare and distribute correspondence to insureds, claimants and other parties.

Essential Job Functions: / % of Time:
  1. Receives and reviews new claims, sets up claim files, and maintains claim diary. Determines compensation levels of claims by reviewing coverage, liability and damages. Sets file and reserves in computer system.

  1. Obtain required documentation to establish the amount of damages, negotiate and settle claims as directed.

  1. Handles various claims questions and respond to inquiries, as needed.

  1. Assigns claims to independent adjusters, as appropriate.

  1. *Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of insurance claims process.
  • Knowledge of mathematical principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of company products, services, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of general office practices.
  • Skill in analyzing claims and making sound decisions using information at hand.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in operating such office equipment as personal computer, Internet, e-mail, fax machine, copy machine, and claims software.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and customers in a professional manner.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility and responsiveness when faced with multiple work tasks and stressful situations.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Education and Experience:

College degree preferred. High School diploma or equivalent accepted. Customer service and/or claims experience are beneficial.
