To
Hon’ble Sri Arun Jaitley,
Minister for Finance & Defence,
Government of India,
New Delhi 110001
Respected Sir,
Sub: Reinstatement of workers in NOKIA Sri Perumbudur Unit by starting production by Microsoft –
Request consideration to negotiate with MICROSOFT.
We invite reference to our letter of even number dated 06.06.2014 on the above subject.
M/S Microsoft who has made an outright purchase of NOKIA (India) and have taken over the Nokia units spread all over the country, except Nokia establishment located in Tamilnadu State.
You may be aware and seized of the controversy related with Tax evasions, resulting in Microsoft staying away from taking over NOKIA, Sri Perumbudur Production unit and other establishments, directing the company to sort out the issue and then to make it over. In the interim, Microsoft asked NOKIA to run the production unit on contract basis. It is unfortunate, NOKIA refused to agree with on the plea that terms on contract are not amenable to them. The controversy still remain unresolved.
As a consequence, of the controversy between NOKIA & MICROSOFT has end with an abrupt closure of NOKIA Sriperumbudur Production Unit, as well other establishments, resulting on 22,000 workers (8000 regular, 7000 contract and 7000 daily rated) loosing the job. In addition, the supplementary unit namely, FOXCON that was producing accessories for NOKIA was also driven to shut down, discharging 7000 workers. Thus a total of 29,000 Indian workers are out of job, as of now.
Moreover, 60% to 70% the products hitherto released from NOKIA were consumed indigenously. Now the populace is driven to go in for imported products of Micromax(NOKIA) at a higher cost.
We seek your indulgence for a dialogue with MICROSOFT to start their own production indigenously from SRIPERUMBUDUR Unit, and to run other establishments, by redeploying the discharged workers, pending disposal of the dispute between them & NOKIA.
Positive decision in this regard will not only tend to provide job to suffering workers ( who lost their job for no fault of them) through reinstatement besides providing opportunity to Indian Communities to purchase indigenous products from MICROSOFT, as hitherto they were entertaining NOKIA productions.
Seeking your kind consideration,
Yours faithfully,
(M Shanmugam)
General Secretary
