# KM refers to coins listed in the 28th, 2001 Krause/Mishler Standard Catalog of World Coins 2016 pp ed Colin R Bruce II, and to subsequent lists in the monthly World Coin News, both published by Krause Publications Iola Wisconsin 54990-0001 USA.

Descriptions owe much to those given in Günther Schön's 1998/99 Weltmünzkatalog 1600 pp Postfach 710 908 D-81459 München.

Since 1984 World Coin News has also sponsored the Coin of the Year (COTY) awards, for coins issued two years earlier.

So far women designers have won the principal COTY awards for coins struck in 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1992, or 4 of the

14awards made to date, and this despite the fact that only 7 of the 70 COTY judges are women!

In the 1970s, in work to portray distinguished living women on UN Ceres medals, the writer made a point of commissioning

women sculptors, including Dora de Pedery-Hunt, Laura Cretara, Marie Louise Radziwill and Elizabeth Jones listed here, and

Vivian Rees-Price, Juliet Simpson and Jacqueline Steiger recommended by the British Royal Mint. In the 1980s, in work

to feature women on modern coins, he similarly promoted the work of women sculptors, and was instrumental in winning them

commissions, as with Margaret Priest for Singapore.
