Mr. Bower also covered why Illinois, and in particular, Cook County were considered to be in a malpractice crises. He showed several graphs of malpractice claim numbers in Illinois and other states, as well as the awarded amount in a case in Cook County versus collar counties.
Approval of Minutes / January 12, 2011 minutes were not approved, as they were not available at the meeting.
NEW BUSINESS / Niki Conforti, ISPR President
ASPR 2011 Conference / The ASPR conference efforts were discussed. The ASPR schedule for Educational tracks and Speakers was reviewed. Lee Meyer and Jen Barber discussed the panel of physician backgrounds they had contacted, including a military physician and a husband and wife team, for the Physician Panel. Jackie Smith agreed to create a list of Things to do in Chicago for the ASPR.
ISPR 2011 Conference Updates / Elfriede indicated that there would be 35 booth spaces for the job fair. She sent out Save the Date invitations last month. In light of the group’s financial position it was discussed to have ISPR pay for the job fair booth space for members, or the hotel room for the members. Erin Wainwright discussed the speakers for the retreat she was in contact with, the list included AccuCheck, Delta, PracticeMatch, PracticeLink, Assurgent, and Timeline.
Finance Committee / Niki Conforti proposed two budget plans. One budget had a surplus of $1,350.00, while the other a deficit of $7,650.00. The group discussed that free parking for physicians should be added into the budgets. The budget that resulted in a surplus of $1,350.00 was amended adding in that ISPR would pay the hotel room fee for one night per member during the ISPR conference. Jake motioned to approve the amended budget, Jackie Smith seconded. The amended budget was voted on, and passed.
Membership Committee / James Tannheimer reported that there were currently 91 members in the ISPR, a record for the organization. His goal is to grow to 100 members by the end of the year. To do this he is going to create a mailer to be sent to all the medical organizations throughout the state of Illinois. He partnered with Janiece Durham, and the two of them will make follow up calls to the organizations after the mailer is sent out. The possibility of teleconferencing, or using Skype during ISPR meetings was also discussed, so as to include more downstate members in the quarterly meetings.
Marketing Committee / Janiece Durham, speaking on behalf of herself and Nilu Patel, reinforced the plan to market the ISPR conference and membership to organizations throughout the state with Jim. Janiece would like to create a map for the new website that shows the location of the members throughout the state. ISPR previously purchased software with this capability for a brochure that had this type of map on it. Niki is to look for the software in the ISPR tub.
Website Committee / Michelle Hirschman showed the group a preview of the updated website she has been working on. She indicated that the members only page will have a log in that is unique for each member, rather than one standardize one. The job bank will also have a new look to it, and make it more user friendly for physicians. She expected the site to go live by the end of April.
Other Business / Niki read an email from a member located in the central part of the state, which requested a meeting to be held in the central portion of the state. The member thought it would be nice to be able to include some of the more downstate members who do not normally get a chance to attend the meetings. This was discussed, and the group was open to holding a meeting in the central area next year, possibly at the OSF Peoria facility.
Meeting Adjourned / Motion to adjourn meeting at 1:50 p.m.
Next Meeting / Next ISPR meeting to be held at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora on July 13, 2011.
