5th/6th Grades Individualized Spelling Plan:

Weekly spelling lists are organized around a central spelling pattern or rule, such as short vowel sounds or compound words. Words are taken from spelling lists that range from 3rd through 7th grade levels. More challenging words will be added throughout the year as needed.

Weekly Routine:

Monday: Students take a pretest of 40 – 50 words to determine which words they need to work on. Students will create a list of 12 words (or fewer, depending on the results of the pretest), starting with the lower level words and working toward the more advanced spellings.

Tuesday – Thursday:

In class: We will spend some class time with short activities that target the week’s spelling pattern.

Homework: Students complete the spelling homework activities (see list of activity choices below: “Creative Spelling Homework”).

Friday: Spelling partners administer individualized spelling tests.
