CODE OF CONDUCT

Developed 18 December 2004

These Codes of Conduct were developed with reference to Codes of Conduct by Hockey Australia, Hockey NSW and Australian Sports Commission.

They include:

·  Officials Code of Conduct

·  Players Code of Conduct

·  Parents & Spectators Code of Conduct

·  Coaches & Managers Code of Conduct

Non compliance of these Codes of Conduct by members will be considered prejudicial to the interests of the Association and may be dealt with under Rule 8.2.

Non compliance of these Codes of Conduct by non members may result in expulsion from the Centre for a time to be determined by the Board.

DEFINITIONS

Participant – players, umpires, coaches, managers, spectators & officials.

Official – umpires, coaches, managers, technical bench (duty clubs).

OFFICIALS CODE OF CONDUCT

·  Respect the dignity of themselves and all other participants.

·  Promote behaviours and practices that are compatible with the wellbeing and safety of the game and its participants.

·  Be a positive role model.

·  Be consistent, objective, impartial and courteous when making decisions.

·  Realise that bullying, physical and verbal abuse, neglect or any other type of abuse is absolutely unacceptable conduct.

·  Avoid situations that may lead to a conflict or conflict of interest.

·  Apply rules and regulations to match the skill levels and needs of the participants.

·  Exercise reasonable care to prevent injury.

·  Show concern and caution towards all injured athletes.

·  Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards.

·  Keep up to date with the latest trends in officiating.

·  Drug and alcohol abuse will not be tolerated.

PLAYERS CODE OF CONDUCT

·  Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.

·  Play by the rules.

·  Never argue with an official.

·  Be a good sport and encourage fair play.

·  No verbal abuse of officials, sledging other players or deliberately distracting or provoking other participants will be tolerated.

·  Realise hockey is a non contact sport.

·  Captains may approach both umpires in a respectful manner at an appropriate time.

·  Keep up to date with the latest rules.

·  Drug and alcohol abuse will not be tolerated.

PARENTS AND SPECTATORS CODE OF CONDUCT

·  Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.

·  Encourage good sportsmanship and fair play.

·  Respect officials’ decisions and encourage participants to do likewise.

·  Violence, verbal abuse or vilification in any form will not be tolerated.

·  Realise hockey is a non contact sport and should be played without hostility.

·  Remember sport is for enjoyment.

COACHES AND MANAGERS CODE OF CONDUCT

·  Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.

·  Encourage good sportsmanship and fair play.

·  Be a good role model.

·  Poor behaviour by the Coach or Manager will result in expulsion of the Captain.

·  Managers (if no manager, the coach) only may enter the field (during the game) after the request of an umpire.

·  Comply with rules of the Child Protection Act.

·  Working with children forms should be signed and returned to the Association.

·  Keep up to date with coaching practices and qualifications.

·  Drug and alcohol abuse will not be tolerated.
