Position Title: Extended Care Director
St. Mark’s Episcopal School is conducting a search for a director of its extended care program for the 2018-2019 school year. This is a part-time job opportunity. The hours are 2pm-6pm from Monday through Friday. During the 2017-2018 school year, theDirector of Extended Care, with the support of school administration, manageda staff ofapproximately ten adults, and wasresponsible for supervising approximately sixty students.
St. Mark’s, established in 1979, is a coeducational parish day school, now serving 475 students from age two through Grade 8 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida foundation of St. Mark’s program is to provide students with balanced exposure to academics, arts, athletics, and spiritual life. Guided by the theory and practice of Conscious Discipline, our teachers and extended care staff focus on the social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth of each child to create a nurturing and stimulating learning environment. The Extended Care program provides a safe and fun experience for students at school beyond the hours of the academic day. The director position requires a candidate with developmental understanding of the age groups enrolled in the program. The ideal candidate seeks to actively engage with students, plan and facilitate activities (i.e. arts and crafts, group games, sports, STEAM activities, etc.), and provide leadership to the extended care team members.
Qualified candidates should have the following competencies:
- Professional and polished interpersonal skills to build strong relationships
- An understanding of child development of elementary and middle school age children
- Excellent communication and organization skills
- An ability to work collaboratively with other staff
Responsibilities include:
- Provide direct supervision of extended care students during indoor and outdoor activities
- Utilize Conscious Discipline strategies and techniques when working with students
- Hiring and scheduling of extended care staff
- Communicate withextended care staff, school administration, and parents
- Assist with daily preparations (i.e. snack, activity set up, etc.) and attendance documentation
Preferred Professional Qualifications:
- Coursework or a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education
