Job Title: Publications Co-ordinator

Job Purpose:

Plan, shape and and co-ordinate the production of printed materials to present Sightsavers in the most inspiring and appropriate way to a wide range of supporters, potential supporters and staff.

Ensure that the Sightsavers brand is presented appropriately, accurately and consistently.

Principal Accountabilities:

1.  Editorial and project management: (60% of time)

a.  Have editorial control for the bulk of Sightsavers publications (excluding direct mail) taking materials through all stages of production, liaising with internal customers, external designers and Sightsavers’ Print Buyer. These materials include; posters, display materials, Annual Report and Accounts, factsheets and leaflets

b.  Manage production and distribution of accessible formats of material including DVDs, braille and translations

2.  Editing and copywriting: (20% of time)

a.  Copy, edit and proofread editorial copy submitted by the Communication Department and wider organisation

b.  Where required, write multi-channel copy for use by teams across the organisation

c.  Write and edit case study material for use by teams across the organisation

3.  Administration: (10% of time)

a.  Liaise with global offices to organise case study gathering trips

b.  Maintain Digital Asset Management system, managing users and approving downloads for others

4.  Brand management: (10% of time)

a.  Provide editorial control for Sightsavers material to ensure adherence to Sightsavers brand guidelines.

Jobholder Entry Requirements - the essential knowledge, skills and behaviours required

Knowledge (Education & Related Experience):

·  Graduate or equivalent experience

·  Substantial hands-on editorial, design and project management experience within publishing

·  Experience of producing and commissioning content for publications

·  Experience managing external agencies and freelancer/internal client and stakeholders

·  Experience of briefing designers

·  Understanding of client objectives, audience types and appropriate approach and expression

·  Familiarity with best practices in print and design, including consistent use of brand and accessible design

·  Knowledge of print and production techniques, including accessible formats

·  Experience creating content for websites, email and social (desirable)

Skills (Special Training or Competence):

·  Excellent editorial skills with the ability to adapt copy to suit targeted audiences

·  Excellent project management skills with the ability to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders

·  Ability to influence internal clients around best practice and appropriate approaches

·  Good copywriting skills

·  Excellent attention to detail and grammatical knowledge

·  Show evidence of continued self-directed learning

·  Have a positive and sustained track record in a similar role

·  Ability to troubleshoot, multitask, prioritise deadlines, work independently and take initiative

·  Good understanding of desktop publishing including InDesign

·  Good understanding of design techniques and brand guidelines

·  Basic design skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign (desirable)
