GOLDEN KNIGHT AWARD

Michael E. Jesanis ’78, ’79

Michael E. Jesanis received his bachelor of science and master’s degree in mathematics from Clarkson University. While at Clarkson, he was involved in Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity and Pi Mu Epsilon honor society. As an alumnus, Mike and his wife, Janet, have generously endowed a faculty chair.

In 1983, Mike received an MBA in management with high distinction from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and received an honorary doctorate from Becker College, where he served as a trustee for 12 years, including four as board chair.

Currently, Mike serves on Clarkson University’s Board of Trustees.

Mike is an advisor to companies, governments and nonprofits in traditional and emerging energy fields. He was also the founder of HotZero LLC, a company formed to create low carbon heating options in communities not served by natural gas.

A principal of Serrafix, Mike is dedicated to helping businesses and residents significantly reduce energy consumption and improve the quality of life in cities. In addition, Mike advises startups and venture capital firms on energy marketplace issues.

Previously, Mike was president and chief executive officer of National Grid USA and a director of National Grid plc. During his 23- year career with National Grid and its predecessor, New England Electric System (NEES), Mike led a transformation of a small regional integrated utility into the country’s second largest energy delivery company.

Mike now serves on the board of directors of NiSource Inc., a utility holding company based in Indiana, and Ameresco Inc., an energy services company based in Framingham, Massachusetts.

Mike and Janet reside in Sunapee, New Hampshire, and have two sons, Clarkson alumnus Gregory ’11 and Andrew.

For his contributions and leadership to his profession, his community and Clarkson, the Clarkson Alumni Association proudly presents the Golden Knight Award to Michael E. Jesanis, Class of 1978.
