RICHMOND CH SHOW

BOLOGNESE

All exhibits were immaculately presented, none were over groomed, no bad mouths, pigment excellent, tails correct on the move, but movement let a few down. The KC breed standard is little more liberal and less detailed than the FCI, nevertheless a fundamental element of both is that a Bolognese should be small with squarecompact outline. Some exhibits today were not. It was hot and sunny during the judging, with no shade available, in my experience some Bolognese do not move at their best under such conditions. Often what you see is not what you get and it is very true of this breed, as the coat can hide a great deal. The two puppy winners both with outgoing characters, were delightful and they deserve a special mention, neither seemed bothered by the heat. Both were full of expression, excellent type, square and compact, with fabulous pigmentation and coats. The male puppy (BP & BOB), had the edge in maturity and movement on the day, but both are ones to look out for in the future.

1 Hollis & Thatcher’s Devonia Cerruti, 9 months, exuded great confidence for a youngster, without losing any of his puppy charm. Compact, square, balanced, good angulation and shoulders. An appealing expression though head could be a little stronger but still has plenty of maturing to do, this should come.Well muscled underneath his flocked puppy coat, moving with drivenever stopped showing, giving him the edge over others. BOB & BP

PGD(3, 1)

1 Thatcher’s Devonia Altavita, 18 months, one of the best heads and coats of all today, good topline, pigment, well muscled, and compact. Moved and strode out well. Unfortunately one fundamental thing let him down, he is not quite square; his legs could be longer, this appears more pronounced on the move than on the table. A pity as there is lot to like about him.

2 Hollis’ Tumbril Tiberius Claudia,2yrs. A little too long in the back, and not square. Good head with a lovely expression. Coat not in the best of condition or length. Moved well but not the drive of 1.

OD(1)

1 Thatcher & Marshall’s Devonia Lorenzo, 4 yrs, square, compact type, good neck andshoulders, level top line. Coat could be little longer and more flocked. Somewhat unsettled from time to time on the move, maybe the heat, but he did have his spurts of moving well when he wanted to. Got the impression he is not a keen showman. RBD

PB(1)

1 Franklin’s Clarchien Ballerina at Starexpress,6 months, a real showgirl in the making, with profuse flocked, gorgeous snow white coat, under which she has good muscle and is deceptively sturdy for such a youngster.Excellent top line and carriage.Lovely melting big dark eyes, but as with the male puppy, her head needs to develop a little more;this should come. A pity she was a little distracted and unsettled on the move but this was only her 2nd show.

JB(2)

1 Boggis’ Aemelia’s Diva La Diva of Anketts, 12 months, pretty youngster a great deal to like about her. Square, well balanced and muscled with a good topline and tail set, very soundly constructed. Lovely head and expression, surprisingly mature for her age. Coat could have been a little better. Somewhat unsettled on the move, again it could have been the heat. Hopefully her owners will persevere with her,as she could do well. RBB

2 Thomas & Richard’s Figgarony Andromache, 14 months, feminine type but not quite the overall balance of 1 and possibly slow to mature. Movement a little erratic. Top line wasn’t alwayslevel on the move, though it was ok on the table.

OB(3,1)

1 Franklin’s Shiarita Is Lovely At Starexpress,2yrs,certainly has the wow factor as she enters the ring and she does stand out. One cant help being taken aback by her immaculately presented profuse snow white flocked coat, in its natural state. Her coat does make her look bigger than she actually is, but she is a big girl. On the move she appears a little long in the back but she is square when gone over on the table. Very soundly constructed underneath all that coat, with lovely head and expression. She did not seem to be moving with quite the drive today, the heat may have been a factor. In BOB challenge preferred the compactness and movement of the male. BB, BOS.

2 Thatcher’s Devonia La Vita E’Bella 3 ½ yrs v similar type to the PGD, though coat not as good, could almost repeat the same comments. I note they are same breeding.
