Job purpose
To research and execute high-quality copy for a wide range of corporate channels, including prospectuses; features for the website, opinions, higher education guides and directories; corporate presentations; contribute to the brand style guidelines; deliver advice, training and guidance on appropriate application of the style guide.
Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities / % Time /
1.  / Research topics and execute high-quality copy (features, opinions, profiles etc) for a wide range of corporate channels, both online and in print, as well as corporate sections of the University prospectuses, and the Research highlights section of the corporate website / 25%
2.  / Produce content for higher education guides and directories / 5%
3.  / Personally take editorial responsibility for a number of the University’s flagship corporate channels as well as suites of key university publications and evaluate their success / 20%
4.  / Ensure that distribution lists of publications as described in point 3 are populated and updated to reflect Communications strategy, and that reader feedback is sought, and routinely fed into the development of publications / 5%
5.  / Draft corporate announcements and presentations, working closely with other university colleagues and senior university staff to ensure the consistent presentation of key messages / 5%
6.  / Contribute to the updating and continuous rationalisation of the University’s style guidelines, advising internal stakeholders on their application / 5%
7.  / Ensure that the University’s tone of voice is implemented consistently across all corporate channels. Lead workshops and informal training on tone of voice for colleagues across the University, empowering them to be confident when communicating about the University to an external audience / 10%
8.  / Work with digital communications colleagues to ensure an integrated and timely approach to communications across channels. / 10%
9.  / Contribute to the wider reputation management carried out by the department, handling sensitive issues (and when required, becoming part of the crisis communications team), supporting the work of the press office, internal communications, community relations and public affairs / 5%

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications, knowledge and experience / Skill level equivalent to achievement of HND, Degree, NVQ4 or basic professional qualification.
Significant, demonstrable experience of high end, high quality, corporate writing, for a diverse range of audiences and purposes
A demonstrable track record of producing high quality corporate content for a range of channels, and measuring these channels’ success
Proven experience of planning and progressing work activities within broad professional guidelines and/or broad organisational policy.
Understanding of how the specialist/professional services provided by the post-holder support the objectives of the University.
Able to apply an awareness of principles and trends in a specialist or professional field and an awareness of how this affects activities in the University. / Postgraduate qualification or further professional PR or related qualification / Application, portfolio, interview, job-related task
