G) Activity: Class will sit in a circle and share three things they are thankful for. The person holding the flashlight will share their three things and pass the flashlight after sharing.

Turn and Talks:

1.  Pg. 5- “What do you think the word “harvest” means? Look at the picture to help you. Turn and talk with the person sitting next to you.” (Have the class share their responses)

2.  Pg. 12- “Turn and talk with someone about a time when someone surprised you or a time when you surprised someone else. Do you think it is good or bad to create a surprise? Can a surprise be both good and bad? Why? Make a prediction about how you think Franklin or his parents will react after seeing everyone at Thanksgiving.”

3.  End of book- “Let’s take a closer look at the pictures, characters, and colors the illustrator used in the book. What did you notice about the characters’ facial expressions? Are the characters showing a lot of emotion? Why do you think the illustrator did this and used such bright and colorful images in the story? How did the colors and images help you better understand the story and do you think it would be harder to understand it if the pictures were in black and white? Why or why not?
