Accelerated Reader Goals and Due Dates

Accelerated Reader-Test Grade:

Each year, students must take a minimum of 15 Accelerated Reader Tests. Students will take two types of AR Tests---novels assigned and checked out through me, and novels from the library. In addition to going to the library as a class, students may go to the library before or after school, or at lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students should be reading and taking two AR Tests each month. Students WILL NOT receive a good grade in my reading class if they do not pass these AR tests.

Accelerated Reader-Word Count Grade:

According to the California State Standards, each 7th grader must read 1,000,000 words. I track the word count with Accelerated Reader. Each quarter, students should read a minimum of 250,000 words. This sounds like a huge amount. However, if students read four 250 page novels, and successfully pass the Accelerated Reader tests, each quarter, they should clear 250,000 words! Typically, students that read 20 novels reach 1,000,000 words.
