Professional Responsibility and Ethics
The program uses two codes of ethics as guidelines for conduct. One is the Code of Ethics for Rehabilitation Counselors published by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification found at https://www.crccertification.com/cve-cwa-ccaa-code-of-ethics The other is the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics (2014) found at http://www.counseling.org/resources/aca-code-of-ethics.pdf Students may also be dismissed from the program if they violate rules or practices of the institution where they are assigned practicum or internship as well as in the classroom or related activities.
Please review them carefully. When submitting this application to be considered for training as a counselor, you are indicating your commitment to maintaining these ethical standards. An example of expectations of counselors in the ACA code of ethics is:
C.2.a. Boundaries of Competence
Counselors practice only within the boundaries of their competence, based on their education, training, super- vised experience, state and national professional credentials, and appropriate professional experience. Whereas multicultural counseling competency is required across all counseling specialties, counselors gain knowledge, personal awareness, sensitivity, dispositions, and skills pertinent to being a culturally competent counselor in working with a diverse client population.
