Ms. Tonya T. Neaves is the Managing Director for the Centers on the Public Service with George Mason University’s (GMU) School of Policy, Government, and International Affairs. Prior to joining GMU, she was the Project Director for the Mississippi Public Safety Data Laboratory, at the Social Science Research Center of Mississippi State University, where she also earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Public Policy and Administration. As a scholar, Ms.Neaves’ research focuses on Emergency Management and Public Safety. To this end, she has secured contracts totaling more than $5 million over the past decade from a number of agencies such as the National Highway Safety Transportation Administration, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Transportation Security Administration, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Ms. Neaves has published such efforts in a number of journals, including Journal of Emergency Management, Review of Public Personnel Management, Natural Hazards Review, and American Journal of Public Health. In an effort to enhance her professional training, she has participated in the University of Michigan’s Interuniversity Consortium for Political and Social Research Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research, Duke University’s Dynamic Management and Leadership Programs, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Management and Innovation Program. Further, as an active member of the American Society for Public Administration, Ms. Neaves currently serves as District II Representative to National Council and is the Treasurer for the Section on Emergency and Crisis Management.
By participating in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Emergency Management Institute’s Higher Education Symposium, Ms. Neaves would like to further enrich her professional and scholastic development by networking and collaborating with others to find solutions for an effective reality, whether through teaching, research, or service.
