A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE ENTHUSIASTIC CONGRATULATIONS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE GREELEYVILLE MITES GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 199899 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE STATE RECREATION AND PARKS ASSOCIATION BASKETBALL LEAGUE FOR GIRLS TWELVE AND UNDER AND FOR PARTICIPATING WHOLEHEARTEDLY IN THE JUNIOR STING REGIONAL TOURNAMENT PUT ON BY THE CHARLOTTE STING WOMEN’S PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL ORGANIZATION.

Whereas, playing basketball in a league develops many positive qualities in the youthful team members; it develops their ability to work hard and persevere, their power to see a goal and work towards it, their cooperative spirit and teamwork, and it helps to promote the selfesteem of the players; and

Whereas, the Greeleyville Mites girls basketball team developed these important qualities and succeeded in meeting the challenges of their recreation commission league by winning the games that made them the Williamsburg County champions; then, this team, composed of girls twelve years old and under, went on to win the Eastern District Championship of the South Carolina Recreation and Parks Association; and

Whereas, the team proudly played on and continued their championship streak as they won the 199899 State Championship for the Mites Division; and

Whereas, this team of young girls was honored further by being invited to participate in the Junior Sting regional tournament put on by the Charlotte Sting Women’s Professional Basketball Organization; this competition, held the end of March, consisted of attending a professional women’s basketball game in Charlotte and playing in the regional championship held at the team’s practice facility in Tega Cay, South Carolina, against recreational league team champions from Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee; and

Whereas, the girls on this team, at their young age, exhibit natural athletic ability, teamwork, and dedication; qualities which will help them succeed in life and all of its challenges; and

Whereas, the Greeleyville Mites girls basketball team consists of Tamika Burgess, Shana Cooper, Shontreal Cooper, Kendra Gallishaw, Tamieka Gibson, Tomica Gibson, Isis Harvin, Marketta Jones, Natalie Nelson, Margie Scott, April Wilson, and Deborah Wilson; their very able and inspiring volunteer coaches are Farrell Matthews and Alberta Wilson; and

Whereas, in recognition of the many hours of practice, hard work, and dedication put forth by the entire team and its coaches, the members of the General Assembly wish to publicly recognize and congratulate this outstanding group of young ladies upon their tremendous victory and wish them continued success in the future. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That, by this resolution, the members of the General Assembly extend their enthusiastic congratulations to the Greeleyville Mites girls basketball team for winning the 199899 state championship in the State Recreation and Parks Association basketball league for girls twelve and under and for participating wholeheartedly in the Junior Sting regional tournament put on by the Charlotte Sting Women’s Professional Basketball Organization.

Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be presented to each member of the Greeleyville Mites girls basketball team and their coaches.
