MODULE 6 – CONTRACT MANAGEMENT (2 days)

AIM

The aim of this module is to understand the role of a procurement manager, provide an understanding of supply contracts including the main types of contract and their content as well as providing skills to successfully manage contracts and manage relationships with suppliers and partners.

LEARNING OUTCOME 1 –Demonstrate an understanding of performance measurement

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

1.1 Understand key performance indicators that might be used to monitor contract outcomes and appraise their relevance for your organisation

1.2Understand roles and relationships between the main stakeholders and the importance of effective communication when measuring contract performance

1.3Identify the main components of a communication plan between stakeholders

LEARNING OUTCOME 2 – Understand and apply fundamental contract monitoring techniques

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

2.1Understand the contract review process using face to face meetings and management information, demonstrating the importance of systems and questionnaires

2.2Demonstrate the causes of contract problems and apply techniques to overcome contractual difficulties

LEARNING OUTCOME 3 – Understand and apply contract management and renewal techniques

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

3.1Outline the main reasons why contracts may have to change and the practical steps required to manage changes effectively

3.2Be able to assess the various risks surrounding supplier viability and take steps to build relationships with suppliers

4.1Understand the benefits of working with partners and consortia and identify ways of improving performance

4.2Critically assess the effectiveness of the contractual arrangements of a partnership or consortium in your organisation

LEARNING OUTCOME 5 – Demonstrate an understanding of how to build relationships with suppliers

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

5.1Identify the main components of a continuous improvement programme with suppliers

5.2Understand tools and techniques that can be applied to facilitate improvements in relationships with suppliers, for example process mapping, opportunity analysis and value analysis
