Job Purpose:Supporting the Head of Department and senior colleagues to develop and implement formal and informal processes and procedures to enhance the student experience for all Ashcroft International Business School Studentsstudying at our Cambridge campus, with particular emphasis on international and corporate students.

Principal Accountabilities:

  1. Take specific responsibility for overseeing the development and operation of processes and systems to support and enhance the student experience. This will include a focus on the integration and retention of corporate and international students and students with any special needs by helping them in the pre-arrival stage through our University processes, providing them with information. This may, occasionally, involve travel to meet prospective new students overseas/in company.

  1. Help champion and support the implementation of University and School wide student experience initiatives and projects. Help design and implement new processes that will improve student experience, liaising with Support Services, as necessary. For example the improvement of induction and pre-induction processes for different student segments.
  1. Oversee the development and implementation of systems to monitor student attendance, tracking of progression and performance and retention. Follow up with appropriate colleagues individual cases as needed. Understand the different characteristics and issues relating to different student groups (i.e. international, on campus, off-campus, professional, postgraduate etc) and be a champion of student experience
  1. Monitor and evaluate student survey and feedback. Provide summary information to Head of Department highlighting points for action. Understand the different characteristics and issues relating to different student groups (i.e. international, on campus, off-campus, professional, postgraduate etc) and be a champion of student experience.
  1. Support senior academic staff to arrange and evaluate student focus group sessions and any other informal ways of receiving feedback.
  1. Work with the Head of Department/Programme Leader/Director of Studies on campus to administer the module evaluation process within theSchool.Gather and analyse qualitative information from module evaluation before passing on for quantitative assessment. Report back on quantitative assessment when received.
  1. Champion the clear communication and implementation of the Student Charter.
  1. Support Programme Committees by supporting with the election, induction and attendance of student representatives
  1. Manage the process within AIBS for the ‘You said, We did’ feedback boxes. Ensure that all feedback points are followed up by liaison with the appropriate members of staff; track any trends/recurring issues, and ensure prompt feedback to students.
  1. Work closely with the Programme Leader in the Department to help organise and co-ordinate Open Days, Offer Days and Welcome Week activities and other events involving students.
  1. Organise and lead additional activities and provide information for specific groups of students as necessary (e.g.international students, part time students) to help them quickly assimilate to their new surroundingsand form relationships.
  1. Co-ordinate student events and activities that promote the international context of AIBS and promote cross-cultural awareness and understanding.
  1. Work with the Head of Department, Senior Academic Staff and the International and Development Office to support international recruitment, including liaisonwith alumni and those working with alumni.
  1. Work with the Head of Department and Senior Academic Staff to arrange and evaluate additional language and study skills support for international students.
  1. Co-ordinate work with Department Student Experience Co-ordinator in Chelmsford
  1. Communicate regularly with the Student Adviser and Personal Tutors to understand any recurring issues with student experience.
  1. Maintain close communication with the Students’ Union.
  1. .Facilitate the involvement of students in the design of new pathways/ programmes.
  1. Provide administrative support to, and participate in appropriate elements of the student experience/Customer Service Excellence working groups.
  1. Help implement Departmental actions identified from Student Services.
  1. Implement processes for gathering student endorsements and accolades that can be publicised and with Marketing and Alumni colleagues help to highlight student and alumni successes that can be publicised.
  2. Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required, commensurate with your grade.

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree (qualifications below degree level will be considered if applicants can demonstrate solid experience and evidence of continuing professional development)

Conditions of Service

The terms and conditions of employment are the responsibility of the Board of Governors.

(a)Salary

Grade 4, £23,449 - £27,999 per annum paid monthly in arrears by credit transfer. Commencing salary will be determined according to qualifications and experience.

(b)Hours and Time of Duty

The normal hours of work are 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday) at times as agreed with the Head of Department. If the nature of the work so requires, the jobholder may from time to time be required to attend meetings or do other work outside normal hours. Remuneration for overtime may be payable.

(c)Holiday

The holiday year runs from 1 September to 31 August. In addition to the Statutory

Bank Holidays, local discretionary holidays, and days when we are closed in the interests of efficiency, annual holiday entitlement will be 24 days. If employment commences part way through the holiday year, entitlement will accrue on a pro rata basis for each complete calendar month. Holiday entitlements for part-time staff will be calculated according to the number of days and/or hours worked.

(d)Medical

Unless otherwise stated, the appointment will be subject to medical clearance.

(e)Pension

The jobholder will be eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.

(f)Normal Retirement Age

We operate a retirement age of 65.

(g)Probationary Period

The first 6 months of the appointment will be a probationary period during which your

suitability for the position to which you have been appointed will be assessed. We

reserve the right to extend your probationary period if, in its opinion, circumstances so require.

(h)Date of Appointment

The position is available immediately once all conditions have been met.
