Portia Douglas Tournament

The Ogden High School Debate Team would like to invite you to Portia Douglas on Friday, November 4th, 2016.

Definition of a novice competitor: For the purpose of this competition, a novice competitor is someone who has never competed in a debate tournament in a prior year.

Double Entering–Students entered in debate, congress or extemp events may NOT double

enter. Students entered in speech events may double enter at their own risk. NO TRIPLE

ENTERING.

Congress – Congress –The docket and Orders of the Day will be sent out a few weeks previous to the tournament.

Public Forum – We will be using the November topic.

Lincoln-Douglas – November topic (we will be using the varsity topic only).

Policy: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its economic and/or diplomatic engagement with the People’s Republic of China.

Awards: Varsity students will be awarded 1st-3rd in every event. Novice students will be awarded

1st-3rd in every event.

Judges: One judge is required for every 5 entries or portion thereof, in individual events and congress. One judge is required for every 3 teams, or portion thereof in Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas. One judge is needed for every 2 teams or portion thereof in CX.

CX judges must be assigned and names must be emailed to me BEFORE the tournament. Those judges will be assigned ballots and they must pick up their ballots for each round. If you don’t bring judges or if your CX judges don’t pick up their ballots, your teams will be dropped.

Schedule is as follows:

Registration: 2:45-3:00 Library

Judges Meeting: 3:15 Library

Congress: 3:30-5:30 Session #1

6:00-8:00 Session #2

All other events: 3:30-5:00 Round #1
5:00-6:45 Round #2
7:00-8:30 Round #3

Concessions will be available for dinner in the cafeteria.

Awards at 8:45PM

Please make sure you are here on time. The sooner we start, the sooner we can give out awards!

Entry Details:

Please let me know by Wednesday, Oct. 21st if you plan on attending. Final entries must be sent to me by Tuesday, November 1st.

Please bring a check made to Ogden High Debate for your entry fees:

$15.00 school fee and $3.50 per student entry.
