A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of James Roland Thompson, Jr.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to James Roland Thompson, Jr., and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, James Roland Thompson, Jr. was born on January 19, 1927, a native of Shelby County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on March 11, 2000; and

WHEREAS, James Roland Thompson, Jr. was the loving son of the late Glynmore Conn and James Roland Thompson, Sr.; he was the devoted husband of Elizabeth "Betty" Bedford Thompson; he was the loving father of a daughter, Janet Rossman of Glendale, Ohio; he was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren, Mike, Jennifer, Maggie, and Tom Rossman; and he was the caring brother of Jerry Thompson of Charlotte, North Carolina, and a sister, Patsy Tinnell of Louisville; and

WHEREAS, James Roland Thompson, Jr. served his country with distinction in the United States Navy during World War II, with the rank of Electrician's Mate, and he later served in the United States Naval Reserve; and

WHEREAS, James Roland Thompson, Jr. was an esteemed citizen of the Shelby County community where he was a devout member of the Church of the Annunciation; he was past president of the Catholic Men's Club; he was past president of the Shelbyville Jaycees and past director of the Kentucky State Jaycees; and he was twice elected Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus; and

WHEREAS, James Roland Thompson, Jr. was the owner and operator of Roland Thompson and Son Plumbing and Electrical Company from 1946 to 1986; he served as assistant manager of the Shelbyville Municipal Water and Sewer Commission from 1986 to 1996, after which time he was a consultant and inspector of water and sewer mains for Kerry Magan Professional Engineer; and

WHEREAS, the passing of James Roland Thompson, Jr. has left a void that will be difficult to fill, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of James Roland Thompson, Jr., and extends to his family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of James Roland Thompson, Jr.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Elizabeth Bedford Thompson, 31 Sequoia Drive, Shelbyville, Kentucky 40065.
