SWANEY PTS MEETING

SEPETEMBER 5, 2017

Introduction of Officers: Amy Bringhurst, President; Meg Yenser, Vice President; Amy Jo Anderson, Secretary; Kimberly Downs, Treasurer (Absent)

President: Amy welcomed all present and noted that it is not a formal meeting. We follow the Agenda, but feel free to ask any questions when needed. The purpose of PTS is to incorporate all families in our school and focus on having fun.

Treasurer Report:No formal Treasurer’s Report; PTS issued teacher grants to teachers before the start of school: $100 given now - $100 in December. PTS spent approximately $3,100 on Block Party.

Mr. Geilenfeldt: Thanked us for having a great block party. He heard good feedback andvery appreciative of the work involved. Great turn out for the meeting and hope parents and teachers will keep coming. We need PTS’s help and I will encourage teachersto come to the meetings, get involved. Teachers are encouraged to share their thoughts, big or small.

Teachers: Teachers present expressed good feedback on Osmos, Mystery Science and I-Station. Also, it is nice to see teachers at the door greeting students in the morning.

Mrs. Kruckenberg: She is excited for the new early childhood playground. Now the class can spend more time outside. They displayed a Thank You picture from early childhood class.

Mrs. Pierce and Mrs. Massey: Math and Literacy Night is planned on September 19th. They are asking for money for goodie bags. The theme is camping where students will go to several math and reading stations. Camping themes. Complete activities, get goodie bags. They requested $100 in cash; PTS approved $150.

Old Business:

Block Party: Next year, we will families to bring chairs; also, ask DJ to clean up musical choices. We received a lot of canned goods that were taken to the Food Bank.

Teacher Grants: They totaled $3,100; $100 now/$100 in December.

Playground: Early Childhood playground is completed; however, there a couple of things that need tweaking. The regulation is 9 inches of mulch around the playground; there needs to be more applied. Mrs. Kruckenberg is requesting bigger barriers made of recycled plastic. That would Also, she is requesting a gap for wheelchair access. Not all of the students can get up the ladder to the slide; requesting a ramp that all of the kids can walk up. PTS and Mrs. Kruckenberg are going to research and price it to come back with options. Also discussed, cover for the sandbox and moving the tires.

Homework Folders: PTS supplied all of the black homework folders for the school.

New Business: (Assigning Chairs for Committees)

T-Shirts:They will be dark gray with “Swaney” written in college letters across the chest. Brandy Coker and Meg Yenser will be the contacts.

Box Tops:We collect from the teachers’ classrooms and fill out the forms twice a year to send them in for points/money. Melissa Oetting will be the contact.

Fall Fundraiser: This is PTS’s big fundraiser for the year. World’s Greatest Chocolate Bars; end up making approximately$9,000. Monday, September 11th to September 25th. PTSgets ½ of all money we bring in. Jennifer Coleman will be the contact.

Book Fair: Work with Ms. Terri by decorating and coordinating volunteers to work the event. It is the Tuesday and Thursday of conference week; 2 in Fall and Spring. PTS sponsors this event. Ashley Justice will be the contact.

Chick-Fil-A Nights: Fundraiser where Swaney operates the prize wheel from 5-7 p.m. Mandy Petre will be the contact.

Room Parents:Assigns all room parents and gets them connected with the teacher. We have Halloween and Valentine’s Day parties. Brittany Armstrong will be the contact.

Teacher Red Ribbon Week: It is scheduled for the week of October 30th. Jessica Molina will be the contact.

Teacher List/Christmas Tree: Zack William will be the contact.

Santa Store: Will be a store for children to buy parents gifts during the craft show. Jennifer Coleman will be the contact.

Spring Fundraiser: JT Enterprises (bowls/cookies). The points we earn help rent inflatables and games are free for the Block Party. Crystal Christiansen will be the contact.

Group Events: (President will be the contact)

Block Party: Scheduled for the Fall; second weekend of school.

Teacher Meals: Conference meals: Tuesday after school; Thursday breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack. We also provide meals and snacks for Teacher Appreciation Week.

All-School Field Trip: PTS pays for field trip and lunches. Parents pay for their own lunch and entry fee. Students will attend learning programs during the day at the Zoo. Tentatively looking at October 19th. Amy will be checking with the Zoo and busses.

Craft Show: It is a fundraiser held the first weekend of December on Saturday; Setup on Friday.

Other group events: Family Fitness Night; All-School BBQ
