Classroom Updates:

Mrs. Laird’s Class (French):

French club is planning for National French Week, the week ofNovember 7th. Students are planning to make kites, play capture the Francophone flag, and enjoy French food. Encourage your 8th grade French student to join us!

Sra. Newcomb’s Class (Spanish):

Hola- All of Sra. Newcomb's classes have recently been told about an exciting travel opportunity to Costa Rica in June of 2018. Parents were emailed, too. Anybody interested in that (or any other international district-sponsored trip) should plan to attend the meeting onNovember 9thfrom 7:30-9 at the Worthington Education Center (200 E. Wilson Bridge Rd.) Students who I think are particularly well-suited and students of families I know or have already discussed this trip with got a special invitation with an RSVP slip for the meeting. Please let me know (on that slip or via email) if you plan to attend the meeting.

All of Sra. Newcomb's classes are learning about Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in class in early November. This holiday is celebrated in several countries in which Spanish is spoken and is most like our All Saints Day combined with a family reunion. It is not spooky or creepy or sad where it is celebrated. It is a special day to remember important people in our lives who have passed away. It is believed that the only true death is to be forgotten. So we will take time to remember in 1b and take time to decorate for the holiday in 1a.

Spanish 1a classes are finally telling time! There will be HW each night. Ask your student to sing the Newcomb original song "Clementime" for a glimpse into a fun mnemonic device. :-)

Spanish 1b students are learning how to decline an invitation with plausible and not so plausible excuses. Fun stuff!

Ms. Wedell’s Class (Orchestra)

The 7th and 8th grade Worthingway Orchestra will combine with Kilbourne Middle School orchestra students to present their first concert onThursday, November 3, at 7:30pmat Thomas Worthington High School. The high school orchestras will also be performing. All are welcome to attend this free event.
