PURPOSE

The Elementary Summer School Program is designed to provide interventions and extended time for teaching and learning Language Arts and Math. To engage students in real world experiences that develop their language and math skills, students will be immersed in an Integrated STEM curriculum. Integrated STEM experiences develop student understanding in multiple STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). The STEM experiences will capitalize on student interest, build on what students already know, and engage students in the practices of STEM with inquiry learning. Instruction is differentiated to meet the individual needs of each student.

THE SUMMER SCHOOL TEACHING STAFF

Our summer school staff members are certified teachers who have demonstrated excellence in professional performance and a genuine interest in working with the unique needs of summer school students. Every teacher is required to submit a new application each year, which includes a description of his/her successes with students in previous summer school sessions or regular year classes.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Each summer school site will have a Parent Open House on Thursday, July 2 (from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM) and special Parent Visitation Days! When visiting the school site, as during the regular school year, please remember to bring your photo ID.

TRANSPORTATION

Bus transportation is provided from the home schools to the corresponding summer site. Please note: home school drop off/pick up locations are not monitored by school personnel - the same as bus stops during the regular school year. It is vital that you make certain your child is on the appropriate bus in the morning and that he/she is met when dropped off in the afternoon. Please do not leave your child(ren) unattended!

Elementary School Online Registration Process:

1.  Each student must be recommended for summer school by his/her current classroom teacher, in the third quarter report card comment. Recommendations are based upon specific criteria. Teachers then enter the recommendation in the online system.

3.  Please have your child’s ID number (lunch number) available and follow the prompts to enter student information including the summer site chosen and emergency contacts. (Note: sites could change subject to enrollment.)

4.  When you reach the end of the registration, please print and keep a copy of your Parent Registration Receipt - this contains your student’s information to include program of study and summer school site information.
