Year:6 Term: Spring 1
1. Please ensure your homework is completed to your very best standard, using either a pencil or black pen
2. You MUST hand in at least one piece of homework each week, in addition to your reading, spellings and handwriting
Curriculum AreaEnglish / Complete the revision SPAG sheet available at the back of the classroom. / Practise your spellings and write an exciting sentence for each of the words. (REMEMBER VCOP!) A minimum of 10, aim for each one to have a different starter. / You have just become the President of a country. Make a presidential speech to camera and save it on DB Primary (or write it and present it to class). What are your ambitions? What are your policies? You need to look confident and well-rehearsed. / Write a letter to Naledi and her younger brother Tiro; perhaps you could become pen pals. What would you say? Ask? Would you include any drawings to show what life is like in England? Try to use some clues from the novel to help make your choices. / Create a newspaper report on the imprisonment (or release) of Nelson Mandela (or choose your own significant event in history).
Include headings, subheadings, pictures, captions, quotes and all the W’s. Spend time presenting this to the best of your ability – perhaps using ICT.
Maths / Complete the revision maths sheet available at the back of the classroom. /
Can you get above 70% on Sumdog this week? / The answer is 375.5
What could the questions be?
Challenge yourself and get that brain working. Can you show evidence of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division? / Create a shop and list the top ten selling items and their price. What is the total of all ten products?
Then show us the same products with 50% off, 60% off, 25%, 10% and their totals.
Ask for help if stuck.
/ Create a package holiday to South Africa. Find out the cost of return flights and an average hotel costs per night. What would the total cost be? How long it would take to get there?
Look at the cost of food, drink and other activities you may wish to do whilst there and add an ‘average’ day spend to your total. This is not an easy task so bonus merits may be awarded!
Topic / Make a map or list all of the countries you can find in Africa. / From the continent of Africa zoom in to South Africa and make a labelled map of all the provinces. Perhaps use a different colour for each to help separate them on the map. / Create a new book sleeve for Journey To Jo’burg. (front and back) Think carefully about colours chosen and what to write in the blurb. Presentation is vital. / Create a timeline of the important events in Nelson Mandela’s life. Include the occasional picture, his birth, death, imprisonment, his release, when he became president, and any other big moments in his life.
/ What is apartheid? Can you create an explanation text explaining as best you can your understanding? Include facts, figures, pictures, quotes if it helps.
Science / Collect a science sheet from the back of your classroom, stick it in and have a go! / Draw a springbok (the symbol of South Africa). Can you find out some interesting facts about this animal? Feeding habits etc. / Draw a food-chain for an animal found in South Africa. Keep it neat and tidy and consider the producer. Perhaps use words such as herbivore and carnivore. / Our eyes are fascinating yet delicate things. Can you create a labelled diagram (or 3-D model) that shows someone else how amazing they are? / Why do rainbows appear in the sky? Can you explain in your own words? Pictures may be useful or perhaps DB Primary for a video upload.
If you are feeling really adventurous, take a day trip to somewhere interesting and exciting and write a page about your day. Photographs would be great so we can experience it too!
Keep reading: your library book or a book from home, website or even a magazine. Comment on it in your reading diary each day!
