Dear Parents of Future 1st Graders,

The Reading Department is thrilled to sponsor our 12th annual Summer Reading Awards Program! This program encourages children to read throughout the summer. It is proven that children who continue to read during the summer months will maintain reading skills learned throughout the year.

To participate in this program you and your child must read 6 books together. Once you and your child complete a book, check out the activities on the back of this page and follow the directions.

Completed forms should be returned to your child’s classroom teacher during the first week of school in September. There will be an ice cream awards party for all students who participate in this program. Only completed forms and quality work will be considered!

Here are some suggestions of books for you and your child to read:

  • Books by Dr. Seuss
  • Books by Mercer Mayer
  • Booksby Robert Munch
  • Books by Laura Numeroff
  • Hello Reader Leveled Books
  • I Can Read Books
  • Easy Reader Books
  • Arthur, Clifford, or Froggy Book Series

Check your local library for these titles and more!

Have a great summer!!!

Happy Reading!

Sincerely,

The Reading Department
