Special Events/Member Services Intern – Winter 2010 Spring/Summer 2011

The Houston Apartment Association is a professional trade association that serves individuals and businesses involved in the ownership, construction, management, maintenance and operation of apartments and other rental dwellings in the Houston area. The Houston Apartment Association serves members in Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Harris, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, San Jacinto, Waller and Wharton counties. The Member Services Department works with prospective members, helps those who join get involved in various committees, clubs and activities and promotes involvement. In addition, the membership department holds an annual membership drive every spring to market HAA to new and renewing members. The Supplier Services Department facilitates the HAA Education Conference and Expo, advertising in ABODE magazine, and sponsorship of events throughout the year.

The Education and Meetings Department oversees industry certification programs and the planning of educational classes and many of HAA’s large-scale special events including: Gala, Volleyball Tournament and Chili Cookoff. The department is responsible for processing registrations and coordinating volunteer and staff support for special events.

Responsibilities of Intern

·  Assisting with development and mailing of informational packets to new members

·  Creating and maintaining membership files

·  Assisting with preparation for events

·  Pre-registering clients to attend through database management system

·  Setting up for events as needed

·  Registering clients on-site at events

·  Assisting with photography activities as needed

·  Assisting with the development and mailing of informational packets for education conference and other events

·  Attending selected association events

·  Assist with other tasks as assigned

Requirements

·  Must receive University/College credit for internship

·  Dedication of 12 to 20 hours per week on-site at the HAA offices or at off-site events

·  Strong writing skills

·  Ability to use Microsoft Office programs

Intern reports to Director of Member Services Lisa Butler, Director of Supplier Services Amanda Sherbondy and Education and Meetings Manager Kirsten Deagan.

This internship is unpaid.
