Initial slideshow assignment and “beats” (where you are going)
2/27/13
Go back to our NHNP map and find your site. Note that all of these are involved in our Easter Food Drive, so that is one angle you can include. Most therefore have some sort of soup kitchen or food pantry. Three groups (3 people each that I will assign) will also be doing videos later at the three places indicated below. In all cases, you should bring a video camera as well as still for the even dates listed below.
For starters, go by the place, take some photos outside, look around. If anyone asks, tell them you are a La Salle student who is doing a story about our Easter Food drive, and about food and health issues in our neighborhood (we are not officially working for the NHNP, so be clear on that).
Later you will interview your contact person. You can ask them:
· to introduce themselves and their position so you have that on audio (always ask people to spell their name even if it’s Jon Smyth)
· why they are partnering with La Salle on the food drive
· what they hope to change in their neighborhood’s health and nutrition
Your slideshow will be 1:45 to 2:30 in length. Based on a typical rate of 3–5 seconds per slide, you will need perhaps 30+ images so keep that in mind. You will eventually need a good deal of scripted narration, plus perhaps some background music, all mixed down to a single .MP3 in Audacity (or your sound editor).
The places, schedule for the food drive and assignments are as follows. Note that this is an individual assignment; while you can do the reporting together and share audio clips, each person must take photos and create a slideshow:
