Fig. S1. Trypan blue staining photomicrographs of arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) in roots of sawgrass and cattail from other field sits in the Florida Everglades. AM was detected in all sawgrass roots but not in cattail roots.

Table S1. Recipe of modified Hoagland solution

Solution is made from 100 ´ stocks:

0.5 M Ca(NO3)2·4H2O,

0.5 M KNO3,

0.2 M MgSO4·7H2O,

10 mM FeNaEDTA,

10 mM H3BO3,

0.01 mM CoCl2·H2O,

0.01 mM CuSO4·5H2O,

10 mM MnCl2·4H2O,

0.5 mM KI,

0.1 mM (NH4)6MoO24·4H2O,

0.03 mM ZnSO4·7H2O

Final phosphorus concentrations of 5 or 1000 mM with 0.1 M KH2PO4.

For low phosphate concentration solutions, K+ was supplied with 0.1 M KCl.

The growth medium was titrated to pH 6.5 with 1 N KOH.
