RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will serve as a vocal coach on the faculty of the Music Department, and, as Artistic Director of Tri-Cities Opera (TCO), will conduct three full opera productions a year (under a separate contract with TCO). Instruction will be divided among individual weekly vocal coachings and lessons, an opera workshop class, conducting duties for the TCO productions of the 2014-2015 season, and community outreach programs. The exact division of hours will be established with the Music Department Chair in consultation with the Executive Director of TCO. Emphasis will be placed on working with singers in the Master of Music in Opera program at Binghamton University and the Resident Artist Training Program at TCO, through coaching and workshop instruction, to ensure they are musically prepared for roles in productions in which they are cast.
* One year interim appointment for the 2014-2015 academic year. A national search (for a continuing appointment) is planned for the 2014-2015 academic year.
QUALIFICATIONS: Documented professional conducting experience with opera companies or university opera programs, coaching and conducting a range of operatic repertoire. Moderate keyboard skills. Expertise in lyric diction, including Italian, German, French and English. Ability to work in a positive, supportive, team environment. Master’s or doctoral degree preferred as is university teaching experience.
