Genesis 21:14

So Abraham rose early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water; and putting it on her shoulder, he gave it and the boy to Hagar, and sent her away. Then she departed and wandered in the Wilderness of Beersheba.

Allow me to say it right from the beginning; there is no cry like the cry of a real mother. When a mother has seen the back side of the mountain and still has hope. A mother who is willing to do everything and anything for her child, a mother who knowingly is not perfect but says in the corner of her spirit, I may not be perfect but I am perfect for you.

A real mother

A mother who looks at the future, and say ok you don’t want to have anything to do with us, ok don’t worry about it we are going to be ok.

A mother who will say in her spirit – I may have made the wrong choice but I will die before I see you suffer.

A real mother does not do it for a card

Does not do it for a dinner

For a day called mother’s day

A real mother does it because she wants to see the best for her child.

Baby Momma Drama

In chapter 21, Abraham has got his own brand of baby momma drama. The two mothers are not getting along, and the wife says that the mistress has to go.

Sarah’s Dilemma

Sarah more than likely was looking for an excuse to send Hagar and Ishmael away -

Sarah took it as long as she could – and finally she had enough and told Abraham, she and that b-child of yours got to go!

Blessed 13

Blessed 13 – I know that many of you associate the #13 with being unlucky – but I call it blessed 13 – IFF – not lucky 13 but blessed 13.

Father to Son

There is something magical that takes place when a father takes interest in his son. There is something wonderful when a blessed man takes time to bless his son.

Genesis 16:15

So Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram named his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.

ISHMAEL ( ihsh' may el ) Personal name meaning “God hears.” Son of Abraham by the Egyptian concubine Hagar (Gen. 16:11 ). He became the progenitor of the Ishmaelite peoples.

Child Support

But before we put Old Abe on a platform of greatest dad’s let me show you how Abe did not understand his station.

The Sheriff

The Sheriff was here on Wednesday of this week, and he enlightened us to a staggering fact that they deliver 1,100 summonses a day to fathers and now mothers who default on child support payments.

There are currently 50K cases on the docket in Prince George County of child support cases.

But wait a minute - When you are down to nothing God must be up to something.

Genesis 16:11 And the Angel of the Lord said to her:

“Behold, you are with child,

And you shall bear a son.

You shall call his name Ishmael,

Because the Lord has heard your affliction.

What does Ishmael’s name mean – God hears –

God knows what you need before you need it.

Genesis 21:17

And God heard the voice of the lad. Then the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said to her, “What ails you, Hagar? Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is.
